L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion - 03 Vanilla Swatches & Review

Ahhh, the warmer months, when the heat makes a full face of makeup seem like a little too much effort. When you're looking for light, dewy coverage in compact, portable packaging, cushion foundations are a great way to go. L'Oreal introduced their take on this trend, the Nude Magique Cushion (RRP $33.99NZD), earlier in the year and it's a foundation I've been enjoying on days when I just want a little coverage to even out my skin without committing to a full face of makeup.

Inside the mirrored compact is a hinged tray which holds an antimicrobial applicator puff. I like that it's kept separate from the product, rather than left sitting on the surface as you sometimes find with powder foundations and blushes. Although I suppose such separation is necessary when you're dealing with a liquid product! The foundation is held in a soft, springy cushion which is all too much fun to squish. Application is fairly self-explanatory - the included puff works pretty well for application and I was able to get around most of the contours of my face with it, although you may prefer to use a more precise tool such as a beauty blender around your nose and eyes.

There are six shades of Nude Magique Cushion available and I have 03 Vanilla, which is the second lightest. Unfortunately, it's a shade or two too dark for me - nearly passable indoors with the rest of my makeup applied but in natural light, the mismatch is more noticeable. 01 Porcelain would probably be a better bet for me.
Formula-wise though, I really like this foundation. It applies really nicely and is very flattering on your skin, whether you've moisturised and primed or you're applying to bare skin (I tested both). The coverage is light and slightly dewy and it easily lasted nine hours with no obvious signs of wear. By eleven hours, it was mostly gone but it had faded evenly (I wasn't missing coverage on my T-zone and chin, as sometimes happens with other formulas). I wouldn't describe myself as a massively oily person (I'm on the milder end of combination-oily) but for what it's worth, I didn't notice any shine coming through when I tested the Nude Magique Cushion.
