Who else stalked the ColourPop Now Playing Holiday collection today? So much gorgeousness! I spent more than I should have and there's still more on my wishlist thanks to their recent barrage of back to back launches.
Anyway, today I have three ColourPop Super Shock Shadows to show you that I actually purchased last year - wow. Two of them I simply adore and the other, not so much. Let's take a look!
ColourPop's Super Shock Shadows have a malleable consistency like wet clay - should you press a finger into the eyeshadow you'll leave a hollow, it doesn't spring back or cling like a mousse, nor does it resist like a cream or powder. And of course, it's endlessly amusing to prod at! Because of the wetness of the formula, it is important to keep the lid tightly shut to prevent the product drying out. Even so, they have a fairly short official shelf life, with ColourPop advising that their eyeshadows will last three years unopened and a year after being opened. I've now had these for over a year and there appears to be no difference in quality than when I first got them, so it seems ColourPop are being pretty conservative.
There are seven different finishes in the SuperShock range: Glitter Sheer, Satin, Matte, Metallic, Ultra-Metallic, Pearlized and Pressed Pigments; I have a mixture of Metallic and Ultra-Metallic shades to show you today. These all contain glitter which is prone to fall out so applying these shades with a finger or a flat shader brush works best to minimise this and press the glitter into place. Across the board, everything I have tried from ColourPop has had excellent colour payoff, but what really impresses me is how budge-proof they are. They take a few seconds to set and then remain crease proof for the duration of wear - long time readers will know I have ridiculously oily eyelids that laugh in the face of most primers and eyeshadows, so the lasting power on these blew me away. I even put Sequin (reviewed here) on the back of my hand and rubbed at it with my finger once it was set, using increasingly hard pressure, and it didn't smear or fade at all. Pretty much the only transfer was a small amount of glitter on my finger.
Packaging:
ColourPop's eyeshadows come boxed, although I confess to being a little annoyed that they don't have the name printed on them. I am a hoarder of packaging and have taken to storing some items in their boxes but because I can't readily identify the shade from the Super Shock Shadow's outer packaging it's a waste of time in this case.
My moaning aside, the eyeshadows are housed in a glossy white screwtop pot with a holographic logo. ColourPop advises that the jars need to be kept tightly shut to prevent the eyeshadow from drying out.

So Quiche
So Quiche is described as a 'soft olive with a highly reflective gold and pink violet glittery duo chrome' in a metallic finish. It's one of ColourPop's most popular eyeshadows but my fussy self just couldn't get into it. I think it's the olive tones on my skin tone, I prefer warmer greens. That's not So Quiche's fault, though, obviously. The colour payoff was great and the sparkle adhered well.
I used So Quiche on the lid, the Chi Chi Extravaganza palette for the lower lashline and crease and Darling Girl Because You Asked on the inner corner. I don't even know what was up with my blending on this day because honestly, WTF.
La La
La La is described as 'a true rose gold in an Ultra Metallic Finish'. This jumped straight to the top of my list of favourite ColourPop eyeshadows as soon as I tried it: the colour, the rich pigmentation, the super smooth texture, La La is just incredible. I can't fault it.
Game Face
Game Face is described as 'an intense penny copper with a liquid like ultra-metallic finish'. Like La La, it's super pigmented and the metallic finish is gorgeous. Best applied with fingers or a flat shader brush to help press the sparkle into place, it should also be noted that I do have a little fallout with Game Face.
For this look, I used Game Face on the outer half of the lid, La La on the inner half of the lid and the Chi Chi Extravaganza palette for the rest. The lashes are from Born Pretty Store.
What I liked:
- La La and Game Face have excellent colour pay off
- Crease-resistant formula lasts all day on me
- Easy to blend
- No fall out from La La
- I had small amount of fallout with Game Face
