I've been trialling Lancome's Rénergie Multi-Lift Memory Shape Gel-in-Lotion for a few months now and I must admit, I was a little confused by what role it should play in my skincare routine at first. It turns out that the slightly overwhelming and lengthy name translates to an anti-aging and firming moisturiser and a really nice one, at that.
This Gel-in-Lotion is a thin gel that spreads across the skin and sinks in readily, leaving a slightly tacky texture, which might sound off-putting, but reserve your judgement for a sec. That tackiness is due to the inclusion of glycerin, an ingredient found in many makeup primers and adhesive eyeshadow/glitter bases and it makes the Multi-Lift Memory Shape Gel-in-Lotion ideal as a pre-makeup moisturiser. The glycerin grabs onto the makeup and helps to hold it in place all day without affecting your ability to blend. I've been skipping primer quite a bit lately as I find I just don't need it when the Gel-in-Lotion is the last step in my pre-makeup routine.
Well, that's all fine and dandy, you might think, but what if I don't want to apply makeup over top? No worries - Lancome says that the Gel-in-Lotion is the next step after cleansing in your Rénergie skincare routine and suggest following it up with other products in the Rénergie range, such as the eye cream, concentrate, night cream or moisturising cream, so you can finish with whichever product you see fit.
During the couple of months that I've been using it, I've enjoyed how the Gel-in-Lotion speeds up my skincare routine in the morning by removing the additional primer step and I feel it does a great job of hydrating my skin. My skin type is combination-oily, although I'm on the milder end of the oily spectrum and this is very compatible with my skin. It's super light in texture but still feels like it's delivering a lot of moisture and I've had no issues with it breaking me out or causing any irritations (no small feat with my volatile skin at the moment - one of the perks of pregnancy). As for the anti-aging and firming aspects, I'm 27 so these aren't key skin concerns for me right now, but the Gel-in-Lotion certainly isn't doing any harm.
It is on the spendy side at $80NZD but the bottle is a generously sized 200ml and given the double-duty it's performing for me, I'd definitely consider purchasing more when I run out. As it stands, I've barely made a dent after a few months of use!
Lancome Rénergie Multi-Lift Memory Shape Gel-in-Lotion is available in selected department stores, pharmacies and Farmers nationwide.
