Notoriously Morbid October 2016 Vanishing Cabinet Swatches & Review

The inspiration for this VC was Nightmare on Elm Street, as you may have gathered from the packaging, and I'm not going to include gifs for this review as I'm a massive wimp!! Despite my wimpiness, this VC was an exciting one as the other Morbid Mavens and I (Notoriously Morbid models & promoters) got to collaborate with Carrie on its creation. We were assigned teams and given free reign to create a custom product of our choosing. My team (myself, Jolie from Etherealize Me and Kat from Dreadfully Divine) came up with Freddy's Coming For You, a metallic grey-green with red sparkles to match Freddy's glove.

About the subscription:
The Vanishing Cabinet is a monthly subscription service from US-based indie brand Notoriously Morbid. The amount of products included seems to vary, but there are typically three to four products in each and occasionally six in special VCs. It's $13.25USD within the US and $20USD for international (including shipping), so a very reasonable monthly treat! You can sign up for the wait list here or purchase a one month trial (while available) here. Overstock is occasionally posted here.

All eyeshadow swatches are applied to bare skin (on the left) and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy (on the right) using a patting motion and photographed under daylight bulbs.

Freddy's Coming For You is a dirty grey-green with red sparkles. To me, it looks very grey in the jar so I was surprised when it pulled more green on my lids. I found that Freddy really needed a sticky base to look its best although it did perform adequately without a base, as shown on the lower lashline in the look below - it was less sheer than it appears in the arm swatch.

For this look, I used Notoriously Morbid's Shadow Bind on the lid, Altar on the inner half of the lid, Fires Are Burning on the inner corner (just the white/gold shade), Freddy's Coming For You on the outer half of the lid and lower lashline, Rayne Brings Ripper on the crease, Mayor Monster to deepen the crease, Creeping Green Moss and He's Going Through Changes to blend out and So Goes My Nation on the browbone. The lashes are Cala style 1.

It's Only A Dream is described as a 'beige highlight with gold and slight red shift'. It reads as a soft warm peach and is very flattering on my pale warm-neutral skintone - I can't believe I haven't used it more often! I thought I had but couldn't find any more looks, so maybe I just hadn't noted it properly. At any rate, it's definitely going into rotation now. Just gorgeous. The formula is consistent with NM's usual highlighter formula: highly blendable, flattering and pigmented. It's Only A Dream lasted ten hours on me.

Here, I've used Numerology blush, It's Only A Dream highlighter and Hourglass Dim Light.

Never Sleep Again is described as a 'warm mid-toned brown Mystic Matte with copper sparkles'. It reminds me of Doppelganger MM, although a lot browner, Never Sleep Again feels like Doppelganger's ultra-chic older sister. The copper sparkles are quite subtle, coming out to play more as your lips naturally press together over the course of wear. You'll want to press your lips together a few times after the application has dried down to get them to show (unfortunately, my camera struggled to capture this). It lasted six hours on me.

You'll Need A Mop is a semi-opaque warm brick red gloss. This was included in the following Vanishing Cabinet as production issues meant it wasn't ready for inclusion in the October VC. I'm not a big gloss lover but I can appreciate this, it's very pretty and comfortable on the lips. It lasted four hours on me.
