ColourPop Vixen Lippie Stix Swatches & Review

Here's another bunch of discontinued ColourPop Lippie Stix to pop on your wishlist - you just never know when they'll stealthily rerelease something! This set is the Vixen Lippie Stix collection from Holiday 2015 (wowza). A good friend let me ship it to her in the States at the time of release (this was back in the days of CP's $20USD+ international shipping) but then with one thing and another we didn't get around to forwarding it onto me for ages and ages. So here it is, after all this time, swatched and reviewed for your pleasure.

The Vixen set is nicely outfitted in a sturdy cardboard case, complete with magnetic closure and mirror. I'm a terrible packaging hoarder, I have kept all of the set boxes like this that I've ever bought even though I've never used them again and store my products differently 😓 Removing the foam from the box would make it handy for travelling, or repurposing as a jewellery box or makeup storage... one day, I'll get around to it!

ColourPop Ruffle Lippie Stix Swatches & Review

The packaging for the Lippie Stix is a glossy white twist up slim tube with a slanted lip bullet. I really like the smaller surface area of this lipstick style as it allows more precision than your traditional larger teardrop shaped bullet. Each lipstick has a coloured end cap which matches the colour inside as well as a label with the name and finish.

Formula Overview:
The shades I have to show you today are a mixture of Matte, Creme and Pearlized. All are richly pigmented and comfortable on the lips, I didn't find any of them drying. They glide on smoothly, with the Cremes and Pearlized finishes having a bit more slip than the Mattes.
Lippie Stix have a chocolate chip cookie scent (to my nose) - yum!

Ruffle

Ruffle is described as a 'mid-tone warm terracotta' and has a Matte finish. I'm all for a warm brown lip colour, but Ruffle has a bit too much yellow in the mix for my taste - sorry, Ruffle! It applies smoothly with a mostly opaque finish - you can see some of my natural lip colour coming through at the centre, more noticeably in the full face shot. Wear time is fairly average at five hours and it was comfortable to wear throughout.

Last Call

ColourPop Last Call Lippie Stix Swatches & Review

Last Call is described as 'a soft cool-toned mauve pink' and has a Creme finish. I don't often gravitate towards cool-toned lip colours but when I do, it's often a mauve-tinted pink like this one. I love the contrast with my eye colour, especially when paired with a warm eye look. Last Call has a little less slip than Night Owl but still applies well and lasts just over six hours. It wasn't drying.

Night Owl

Night Owl is described as a 'vivid cool-toned hot pink' and has a Creme finish. For a colour as wondrously glossy and vibrant as this is, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Night Owl didn't feather at all on me! It applied smoothly and was comfortable to wear, lasting just under six hours with slight staining.

Plastics

ColourPop Plastics Lippie Stix Swatches & Review

Plastics is described as a 'deep red violet' and has a Matte finish. It's semi-opaque and stains hot pink almost instantaneously, a combination that always bugs the shit out of me - why, purple pigments, why?! It's not ColourPop's fault, it's just the pigments, but that doesn't make it any less annoying. Plastics lasted just under six hours on me and didn't feather or dry out my lips during that time, but left my lips very stained.

 Jingle

Jingle is described as a 'true blue red' and has a Matte finish. It's hard to go wrong with a matte red and while Jingle doesn't serve up anything unique, I still enjoyed wearing it. Bossy from the permanent range is similar; a little brighter, perhaps. Jingle lasted a staggering eight hours on me and wasn't drying, although I did notice some subtly feathering.

54

54 is described as 'red wine burgundy with red and hot pink glitter' and has a Pearlized finish. Ahh, the elusive Pearlized finish. Will we ever see this again from ColourPop? I certainly hope so as it's one that I really enjoy. Mid-way between a Creme and a Satin finish, it's slightly sheerer to allow the glitter to show through and gives a very juicy look. 54 lasted six hours on me, didn't feather or dry out my lips and didn't leave stray glitter particles all over my chin - always a nice bonus 😀

What I liked:
  • Excellent colour payoff
  • All were non-drying
  • All but Jingle didn't feather
  • Wear-time was between five and eight hours
What I didn't like:
  • Jingle feathered slightly
  • Plastics stained hot pink (immediately!)
Where to buy:

Which of these is your favourite? My standouts were Night Owl and 54.
