Today's MAC Monday throws it back to the year before my MAC obsession really took hold - 2009 ("Those were the days..." I can hear my wallet muttering forlornly). The Trend F/W '09 collection was an 'ode to the strength of a woman, rendered with true architectural precision' and contained a mixture of smokey, dark hues and true nudes, punctuated with the startlingly bright Red Full-Stop. I have three of the four lipsticks from the collection to share.
Formula overview:
There's a good mix of finishes in this collection and they all tend to perform differently, so let's get stuck in. Red Full-Stop is a Lustre, which are often sheer with some sparkle and an occasional tendency to be drying. Hipster is a Frost, which are metallic and pigmented but like Lustres, sometimes drying. Finally, Faultlessly F/W is an Amplified Creme, a formula that marries high shine with intense colour. I find that they can be more likely to feather on me (which I am prone to), although I didn't have this issue with Faultlessly F/W.
MAC lipsticks have a vanilla scent.
Red Full-Stop
Red Full-Stop is described as a 'bright neon coral' with a Lustre finish. It's one of the more pigmented Lustres I've tried and a great reminder of why I keep coming back to the formula, despite the occasional dud! When they're good, they're SO good. Red Full-Stop lasted five hours on me and wasn't drying.
Hipster
Hipster is described as a 'burgundy frost' and of course, has a Frost finish. The application isn't perfect - it's a bit patchy as you can see in the swatch - but the final effect is so gorgeous and for me, worth the fuss. I think it'd be gorgeous over Currant lip pencil, or maybe Vino. Hipster lasts for five hours on me and isn't drying.
Faultlessly F/W
Faultlessly F/W is described as a 'blackened blue violet' in an Amplified Creme finish. I think all my patience for uneven lipsticks is taken up by rich, jewel-toned frosts like Hipster and subsequently, I have no tolerance for slippery dark purples like Faultlessly F/W! Although Faultlessly F/W has excellent colour pay off, I think the colour would have been far more suited to MAC's Matte or Satin formulas, as the Amplified Creme finish is just too slippery to apply evenly with pigments that are typically difficult to work with, as purple pigments so often are. It lasted for five hours on me with some wear to the centre, wasn't drying and didn't feather or move around too much.
- Red Full-Stop had excellent colour payoff
- None of them dried out my lips or feathered
- All of them wore for five hours
- Faultlessly F/W was hard to apply evenly
- Hipster was a bit patchy
What do you think of this trio?
