MAC Monday: Dame Edna - What A Dame! Highlight Powder Swatches & Review

MAC Monday: Dame Edna - What A Dame! High-Light Powder Swatches & Review

When I was but a young MAC addict, a collection so fabulous it set the standard (in my mind) for all future fabulous MAC collections to come was released: Dame Edna. A collaboration with the iconic Dame Edna Everage, this collection hit counters in 2008 in glossy purple packaging adorned with Dame Edna's signature glittery red spectacles. In my opinion the lipsticks were the stars of the show (we'll get to those in a future post), but the Highlight powders weren't far behind.

There were two highlight powders in this collection, Spectacle! and What A Dame!, which featured a shimmery overspray and 'Dame Edna' in embossed gold lettering with additional sparkles framing the text. I'm not really sure why they went with 'highlight powder' as a product name, as once the overspray is gone (which is sadly very quickly) there's no shimmer to it - really more of a blush than anything.
Much as I love the packaging, the red glittery spectacles are stickers, and they're unfortunately prone to peeling and grubbiness. I'm very glad that MAC began printing their special packaging tubes shortly after this. Included in the mirrored compact is a small powder puff which also bears the Dame Edna signature - it's cute, but a bit useless, doing nothing to impart colour.

Woe, no more overspray for me! :(

What A Dame! is described as a 'pale orangey pink', which is pretty spot on. It has buildable colour payoff and runs on the powdery side but still sits well on the skin, blending out easily. It lasted just under twelve hours on me although it was very faded by the end.

What I liked:
  • Buildable colour pay off
  • Easy to apply and blend
  • Wears close to twelve hours
What I didn't like:
  • A bit powdery
  • Overspray disappears very quickly
  • Included powder puff is pretty useless, sticker peels & gets grubby
