It's been a hot minute since I reviewed any of the ever-growing pile of ColourPop eyeshadows in my collection, so let's fix that today with a look at the Studio 1400 Quad! This set is part of ColourPop's current Last Call selection at a discounted price of $14.40USD at the moment, but the individual shades are still all listed at full price ($5 each) and don't seem to be going anywhere. If you love all of the colours, now is definitely a good time to grab them all at once and save a bit of dosh.
ColourPop's Super Shock Shadows have a malleable consistency like wet clay - should you press a finger into the eyeshadow you'll leave a hollow, it doesn't spring back or cling like a mousse, nor does it resist like a cream or powder. And of course, it's endlessly amusing to prod at! Because of the wetness of the formula, it is important to keep the lid tightly shut to prevent the product drying out. Even so, they have a fairly short official shelf life, with ColourPop advising that their eyeshadows will last three years unopened and a year after being opened. I've now had these for over a year and there appears to be no difference in quality than when I first got them, so it seems ColourPop are being pretty conservative.
There are eight different finishes in the SuperShock range: Ultra-Glitter, Glitter Sheer, Satin, Matte, Metallic, Ultra-Metallic, Pearlized and Pressed Pigments; I have a mixture of Ultra-Metallic and Pearlized shades to show you today. The Pearlized finish is very easy to work with - it's shimmery but without the glitter (and associated fallout) of the Metallic or Glitter finishes, while the Ultra-Metallics are more intensely metallic and sparkly.
Almost everything I have tried from ColourPop has had excellent colour payoff, but what really impresses me is how budge-proof they are. They take a few seconds to set and then remain crease proof for the duration of wear - long time readers will know I have ridiculously oily eyelids that laugh in the face of most primers and eyeshadows, so the lasting power on these blew me away. I even put Sequin (reviewed here) on the back of my hand and rubbed at it with my finger once it was set, using increasingly hard pressure, and it didn't smear or fade at all. Pretty much the only transfer was a small amount of glitter on my finger.
Packaging:
The term 'quad' might lead you to think that these come in a palette but the Super Shock Shadow formula will dry out if not housed in their screwtop jars. What you actually get are the four eyeshadow pots in a box with a slide off cover.
8 Track
8 Track is described as a 'deep bronze' in a Pearlized finish. It's a dirty, antique kind of bronze and I just love it! The colour payoff and blendability are excellent, too.
For this look, I used 8 Track on the outer half of the lid and lower lashline, Moonwalk on the inner half of the lid, Jinxie on the inner corner, High Rise on the crease and Cornelious for the transitions. The lashes are these Red Cherry 217 dupes from Ebay.
White Rabbit
White Rabbit is described as a 'pink copper' in an Ultra-Metallic finish. This copper absolutely GLOWS - if you have blue or green eyes you need it without a doubt as it will make your eye colour pop (no pun intended).
I used White Rabbit on the centre of the lid here, with Static on the outer third, Cat Nap on the inner third and Peekaboo on the inner corner. I also used the Lorac Pro palette and the lashes are these ones from Born Pretty Store.
Donna
Donna is described as an 'emerald green' with a Pearlized finish. It's bluer than I would think of when it comes to emerald green but once applied, I loved the colour much more than I thought I would. It was a breeze to apply and blend, too.
I used Donna on the outer third of the lid for this look, with Partridge in the centre of the lid and along the lower lashline, Sleigh on the inner third of the lid and Valley Girl on the inner corner. I also used Head Rush on the crease and Cornelious for the transition. The false eyelashes are from Born Pretty Store.
Static
Static is described as a 'deepened burgundy' in a Pearlized finish. I'm still a little shy with burgundy eyeshadows but I liked Static a lot! The colour payoff is great although blendability could be a little better, I found it trickier to diffuse than other ColourPop shadows.
