Darling Girl Daily: Frankenstein Eyeshadow Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

I'm back with another Darling Girl review; this time one of DG's many stunning duochromes is up on the chopping block. And when I say many, I'm not kidding - when I made my order I spent a ridiculous amount of time poring over the Effects/Duos category before making my picks (and still left a tonne on my wishlist). In fact, just browsing the category again while gathering info for this post distracted me for longer than I'd like to admit!
Briefly, Darling Girl Cosmetics is a US based indie cosmetic company who offer varying sizes of their eyeshadow and face products for very reasonable prices. I purchased:

  • The Bloggers Review Kit ($4USD - 4 sample bags containing 1/8 tsp of product & 1 Petit, containing 1/4 tsp)
  • Mix & Match Sample Set ($4 - 5 baggies)
  • And a selection of the international only sample bags, which I can no longer find on the site.
They mainly offer Petit ($2.50, 1/4 tsp product) and full size jars of their products ($5.90+, 3/4 tsp). There don't appear to be any sample sizes of the lip products (which I'm keen to check out next!). Okay, that wasn't so brief. Onto the eyeshadow!

Left: Applied dry/Right: Applied over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy

Frankenstein is described as a 'murky greyish green with strong copper shift.' I thought this shade was really interesting, because swatched on my arm, I wouldn't have picked the green base at all! Yet on my lids (applied to outer half of lids below) you can see the hint of khaki green at the edge of the colour. This made it pair with Demeter (another Darling Girl shade, shown on inner half of lid) in an unexpectedly lovely way.
Applied dry, the shimmer is just as present as it is over a sticky base, however the base colour does become sheerer and a little patchy. I applied Frankenstein dry to the outer half of my lid to create the shape I wanted below and the sheerness was more apparent then, although it was still very easy to work with. Over the Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, Frankenstein is positively luminous; I love that copper sheen! What do you think?

What I liked:
  • Shimmer shows up dry or over Pixie Epoxy
  • Easy to apply and blend
  • Super reasonably priced - $2.50 for a Petit, $5.90 for a Full Size jar, or try a Mix & Match sample set (5 samples for $4 - all prices in USD)
What I didn't like:
  • Sheerer and a little patchy applied dry
Where to buy:
  • Darling Girl products can be found on their website, don't forget that you can use my code LANILOVES to save 10% on your order.
What do you think of Frankenstein?
