MAC Pencilled In: Ruby Woo Lip Pencil & Lipglass Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

I have two products from the upcoming Pencilled In collection to share with you today! Pencilled In is a new and permanent launch which pairs best selling MAC lipstick shades with matching lip pencils and lipglasses. This set matches the cult favourite Ruby Woo, which I no longer have in my possession (though I have a replacement on the way with the Red Lip bag from last year's holiday collection, so will swatch everything together for you soon!).

Ruby Woo Lip Pencil

Ruby Woo (lip pencil) is a super bright cherry red. Like its namesake, it's very matte and I found it to be a little drier in texture and application than some of the MAC lip pencils that I own. Consequently it took me a bit longer to fill in my lips than it usually would because although it doesn't drag, there's no creaminess to speed up application. 

Once I got it on though, Ruby Woo wore beautifully without drying out my lips and it prevented the matching lipglass from feathering when I layered. Worn together, I get five hours wear and without the lipglass I get seven.

The matching lipglass is also cherry red, a creamy opaque shimmer-free gloss with a hint of squishy jelliness to it. Nail polish junkies will know what I'm talking about! :D 

Now, opaque glossy reds and I have never got along well, so I'll say upfront that your mileage may vary - for a red lipgloss to not feather on me is the exception, not the rule. Ruby Woo wore for three hours on me, during which it feathered somewhat and faded quickly in the center. Again, if you don't usually have a problem with feathering, it'll probably be fine for you. My lips are just a bit weird! MAC lipglasses have a thick, tacky texture and a vanilla scent.

What I liked:

• Both products had great colour pay off
• Ruby Woo lip pencil prevented the matching lipglass feathering
• The lip pencil wears for five to seven hours and did not dry out my lips

What I didn't like:

• Ruby Woo lip pencil had a drier texture than most MAC lip pencils that I've tried, so application took a bit longer than usual
• Ruby Woo lipglass feathered on me
