MAC Cinderella: Royal Ball & Free As A Butterfly Lipsticks, Happily Ever After & Glass Slipper Lipglass Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

I've been getting my swatch on and have the lip products from MAC's Disney Cinderella collection to share with you today! This collection has mostly sold out everywhere but I heard from the Kirkcaldie & Stain's MAC counter today that they still had a selection of the eye glosses, lipglasses, brushes and fluidlines. I recommend calling your local counter to see what they have available plus I'll leave some links for other places to go a-hunting at the end of the post.

Here's what I have from the Cinderella collection - the lip products, eyeshadow palette, both face powders and an eye gloss. I'll review the remainder ASAP!

Let's talk packaging first of all because I know for many that was the real drawcard of this collection! Everything is outfitted in glossy powder blue with a violet duochrome and gold accents. I'm a sucker for contrasting shimmer like this and totally need a polish in this colour now (speaking of which, anyone else surprised that there are no nail polishes in this collection?). The boxes match the packaging but I had trouble capturing the colour shift so you'll see a bit more creative lighting than usual in some photos :D

Lipglass

MAC's lipglasses come in 4.8g tubes with a doefoot applicator. They have a vanilla scent and a thick, tacky consistency that you either love or hate (or flip flop constantly like I do) but it generally helps them to last a bit longer than your average lipgloss, depending on the colour. I find the formula to be somewhat hydrating.

I go through phases where I enjoy lipglasses or don't wear them at all, so these were a bit of a wild card purchase but I really like them!

Glass Slipper is a sheer, slightly pink tinted gloss loaded with pink sparkles. This is Dazzleglass levels of sparkle, I love it! It wore for just under three hours on me.
I kinda feel like the colour names should have been switched for these, because the blue shimmer in Happily Ever After seems way more akin to a glass slipper than the pink they went with, but maybe that's just me.

Happily Ever After is a slightly milky pink with a tonne of blue shimmer. It reminds me of Flurry of Fun from the To The Beach collection a few years back - different base colours, but they share that fab blue sparkle. I will have to reswatch my tube of Flurry of Fun and post a comparison! Happily Ever After wore for just under three hours on me a well. Consistent wee lipglasses today, huh?

Lipsticks

MAC lipsticks are 3g and are vanilla scented. Both of the lipsticks in this collection are Lustres, which are typically sheer, shimmery and can be drying. I didn't have any trouble with these two drying my lips, finding them comfortable to wear and neither hydrating nor drying but Temptalia wasn't so lucky. Lustres can be a divisive formula! This formula will cling to any dry patches so make sure your lips are in good shape before applying. I like using a lip scrub or a soft toothbrush to buff away any ickiness.

I know a lot of people were disappointed with the colours in this collection, likening their appearance to 'frosty chapsticks'. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about them at first, especially when swatches began popping up but now that I've taken them for a spin I actually really like them. I definitely get the Brigitte Bardot vibe The Makeup Box identified and channeled in her Cinderella post, I felt rather kittenish wearing these.

Free As A Butterfly is described as a 'semi-sheer golden nude'. Semi-sheer? Errr, no MAC. This is straight up sheer with just enough pigmentation to even my lip colour a little. It has a muted gold sheen which was hard to capture in the lip swatch (though it was more visible in real life) but can be seen more readily in the arm swatch. Free As A Butterfly wore for two and a half hours on me.

Royal Ball is a peachy pink with soft and subtle silvery shimmer. I think this one is really cute, it'll go with a lot. It wears for two and half hours on me.

And just for fun, I tried layering the glosses over the lipsticks. Here's how they turned out!

What I liked:
  • Lipglasses last just under three hours
  • Gorgeous packaging
  • Lipsticks are not drying
  • Lipglasses are somewhat moisturizing
What I didn't like:
  • Free As A Butterfly is straight up sheer, none of this semi-sheer business!

  1. Colours are a bit subtle for me to wear, but they do look pretty, esp the glosses. Morgan Taylor have brought out an official range of nail polishes for the Cinderella movie :)

  2. I saw that! Do you know of anyone stocking them?

  3. Hmm I've had a nosy around and have no idea if anyone currently stocks Morgan Taylor in NZ! :( https://www.facebook.com/MorganTaylorNewZealand seems rather quiet now?). Did see some on Ebay but hard to get them shipped to NZ. I was wondering if OPI/Orly might do a collection, which is how I found the Morgan Taylor ones

  4. I'm surprised they went with Morgan Taylor to be honest, from what I know of them they are largely geared towards pros and Cinderella could be such a commercial collection! It's not like OPI don't already have a relationship with Disney either.

  5. I agree, its strange! Even China Glaze would have made more sense commercially too.
