Hey babes,
You know I can't resist the allure of new shades of Darling Girl Pucker Paints for long, so here are my latest four! I'm working on a masterpost with swatches of all of the shades I have as well, so keep your eyes peeled for that soon.
Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs
Formula overview:
Darling Girl Pucker Paints have lovely colour pay off, with a thin, creamy texture - definitely not as watery as Lime Crime Velvetines, nor as viscous and mousse-like as NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams or Australis Velourlips. It's a very easy to control formula which dries down to a matte finish quickly, while still giving you enough time to outline and fill in your lips without it bunching up on itself.
With most shades, I applied two thin layers, concentrating on creating the lip shape and lightly filling in on the first, before completely filling in and evening out on the second. Be sure to leave a couple of minutes between layers - I like to keep my lips parted until the lipstick has fully set because until then, it retains a slight tackiness that will cause it to grab at itself and pull patches of pigment away if allowed to touch (this is pretty common for these types of formulas). If you're not keen on waiting to layer, this formula also works wonderfully with my friend Teigan's application method - dip into the tube, apply to left half of lower lip, dip again, apply to right half of lower lip, etc (check out her blog, Miss T's Makeup).
The Pucker Paints do not cling to the lips or highlight every crevice the way some liquid matte formulas do and they're only minimally drying towards the end of wear. Some can appear chalky upon first application, or the shimmer (where present) can be a bit hidden, in which case lightly rubbing a finger or cotton bud over your lips can remedy that. There's no tackiness at all once dry, just a smooth, powder-soft finish.
The scent for all of the Pucker Paints is being phased from peppermint to buttercream cupcake based on customer feedback (peppermint essential oil can be an irritant for some and just a general deal breaker for others). Because of this I have a mixture of scents across these shades, I assume as a result of the scent changing as each batch is used up and new shades are created. I like both scents and find the peppermint super subtle (as opposed to the minty blast of products like Revlon Colorburst Balms), so no complaints here.

Ambrosia Salad
Ambrosia Salad is a 'coral leaning orange with gold pearl sparkles'. It's part of the Snow in Love collection, which is being retired until the next holiday season at the end of January, so if you love it I highly recommend snapping it up now! I absolutely adore this colour and have already worn it several times. The gold sheen gives it the most gorgeous dimension, plus it wears like iron - seven hours with a little drying by the end, but heck, for seven hours wear I can live with that!
*
The Spice
The Spice is described as a 'pinky chestnut'. It has mostly opaque colour pay off, isn't drying and has a respectable five hour wear time. If you're still loving the rosy brown lip trend like I am, definitely check out The Spice. It's different enough to shades like Maybelline Touch of Spice and MAC Whirl to keep me crushing on this colour family but not at all dupey.

Eat You Up
Eat You Up is a reddy orange with heavy copper shimmer and was part of a recent Hello Waffle Visage box. It was made available on the Darling Girl site for a limited time after that, though sadly it's gone now. I live in hope that Susan will bring it back one day! I could definitely do with a back up of this fiery beauty.
I already like the Pucker Paint formula (you may have gathered by now, heehee), but the consistency of Eat You Up and Poison Slapple is better than ever. It's slightly creamier and the opacity is awesome. Eat You Up lasted a bit over five hours on me and was not drying.

Poision Slapple
Poison Slapple is a 'coppery red with a pearl finish and some hidden pink holo-sparkle'. It's from a How I Met Your Mother themed Thanksgiving duo and you can still grab it on the site here. I'm not sure how I feel about this colour on me but the formula is such a pleasure to work with and I love the holo-sparkle. Plus the name references one of my favourite How I Met Your Mother episodes (and is really making me want to binge watch the whole series again)! This one lasted five hours on me and was not drying.
- Great colour pay off
- Easy to apply
- Wore between five and seven hours
- The Spice, Eat You Up and Poison Slapple were not drying
- Ambrosia Salad was slightly drying
- Darling Girl Cosmetics, 5ml for $11.75USD
