ZA Cheeks Groovy Blusher - #01 Glowing Pink and #04 Apricot Pink Swatches & Review

I have two more blushes from ZA's Cheek Groovy line to show you today! These pretty blushes come from a range of five shades (you can find my review of #05 June Bride here) and retail for a very reasonable $20 here in New Zealand.

Cheeks Groovy blushers come in glossy black compacts with a window to see the colour inside. The outer plastic box has a wee diagram and information to provide guidance on how to use the blush. You'll notice these blushes come with a small brush which could be handy on the go but I'm not a huge fan of it - I find this brush a bit too floppy to be effective enough for a well placed and blended blush application.

Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs: 01 Glowing Pink (left), 04 Apricot Pink (right)

Both blushes have sheer but buildable colour pay off and are ideal for those who like to keep their blush application subtle or light. I'd also recommend them for anyone who is just getting into blush and not feeling confident, as they're pretty difficult to overapply! I found that they both sat nicely on my oily-combination skin, but Apricot Pink looks a little powdery and thus may not be so flattering on dry skin.

Glowing Pink is a soft coral tinted pink with fine gold shimmer. It has sheer but buildable colour pay off and lasts for seven hours before fading. This isn't a glittery blush but the shimmer is definitely visible so those who prefer satin or matte blushes may want to steer clear. I'd be interested to see how this compares to NARS Orgasm, which I don't own, online swatches look like they aren't dissimilar.

Apricot Pink is a soft orange which blends out to be more coral. It applies quite sheerly on the skin and can be built up for a subtle flush on my skintone, although deeper complexions may find it difficult to get it to show up. I'm a big fan of orange blushes, they're far more flattering than you might think, especially on warm toned people, and Apricot Pink is a nice representation of that. It wears for seven hours on me before becoming very faded and eventually disappearing.

What I liked:
  • Soft, blendable texture
  • Sheer but buildable colour payoff
  • Ideal for those who like to keep their blush application light or subtle or are not confident with blush
What I didn't like:
  • Slightly powdery texture may not be so flattering to drier skin types
Where to buy:

Have you tried the Cheeks Groovy range? What do you think of these two?
