L'Oreal 2017 New Releases Swatches & Review

Just when you thought your wallets were safe (JK, a beauty addict's wallet is never safe), L'Oreal have released a bunch of new products to tempt you.
Among the new releases are high coverage concealers and foundation, oil-infused nail polish (say whaaaa?), a new eyeshadow palette, highlighters, brow crayons to deliver the Brooke Shields brows you've always dreamed of and Sexy Balms in sheer or opaque finishes. I was very lucky to be sent a selection of products to take for a spin, so I've been swatching and testing my wee heart out to get acquainted with everything and I'm ready to share my thoughts. Let's dive in.

L'Oreal Infallible Total Cover Concealer Palette Swatches & Review

Light on sleep? Breakout ruining your day? The Infallible Total Cover Concealer Palette (RRP $26.99NZD) has been sent from the makeup gods on high to solve all of your problems. Back when we had our first child, he and I would sleep in until 10 or 11 in the morning so the constant wake ups in the night were easier to cope with, and when we had our second, our eldest hadn't yet started early childcare, so again, no pressure to get up and at 'em in a rush. Now, doing the newborn thing all over again with our third child, I have to hustle out of bed bright and early to do the school and kindy run, multiple wakeups be damned.  My point is, I have undereye circles that could rival a panda's and my skin's breaking out more than usual because I'm chugging caffeinated drinks like my sanity depends on it (I suspect it does) instead of sticking to water. I need some extra help in the concealer department at the moment and the Total Cover Palette is ROCKING. MY. WORLD. There are three shades of concealer and two colour correctors; all have incredible coverage and a creamy, blendable texture. They're not overly emollient, though you'll still want to set with a powder under the eyes to prevent them from sinking into fine lines (I noticed very subtle settling when I skipped powder) and they last all day. As for matching, the lightest shade works for me, with the yellow tone providing some additional brightening and used over top of the colour correctors (purple for dark undereyes, green for redness), I can look magically well rested in a flash. The additional two shades could potentially be used for cream contouring, although they may be a little warm - I'll let you know how that goes!

L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Feline Mascara Swatches & Review

L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Feline Mascara Swatches & Review

Do you ever find that it takes a few uses to really get acquainted with a new mascara? This was the case with the latest in the Volume Million Lashes mascara range, Feline (RRP $29.99NZD). It started off very wet and objected to being layered (in the form of some gnarly clumping) but I persisted and after a few uses, I grew to really like it. I've been using Feline for a bit over a month now and we're good pals, I like how it defines my lashes and holds a curl well. It doesn't flake or smudge during wear and when you're ready to remove it, it doesn't put up a fight. I do wish it delivered more volume, I feel it's really more of a separating/defining mascara than the name would imply.

Before & after Brow Artist Maker in Blonde

Apologies, I had just had my brows tinted before taking these shots so I don't have as much of a blank canvas I normally would - hopefully you can still get the gist of it. The Brow Artist Maker (RRP $22.99NZD) is an interesting product, it's a chubby crayon with a kabuki brush on one end so that you can have perfectly tousled brows. And here I am, usually trying to shellac my wayward brows down with brow gel! I was concerned the crayon style would be too thick to work with but I was able to fill in my brows easily and a quick run through with the kabuki brush helped to blend and work the colour through. The lasting power was great, I didn't notice any fading during the day and removal was a breeze too. All in all, pleasantly surprised by a product I didn't think I'd be mad on. The shade I have is Blonde but there's also Light Brunette and Dark Brunette available.

L'Oreal Sexy Balm - Adventure, Can't Sit With Us, Go Pretty Or Go Home Swatches & Review

Onto the lip products, always my favourite part of the show - I'm predictable like that. The Sexy Balms (RRP $17.99NZD) come in sheer or bold options, though L'Oreal are decidedly in favour of the sheer finish with eight sheer options to just four bold ones. My bias towards super saturated colour aside, these are awesome. The colour payoff is even, they're super easy to apply and they hold true to their moisturising claims, I found them incredibly comfortable and hydrating. Pictured above are Go Pretty Or Go Home (sheer), Can't Sit With Us (sheer) and Adventure (bold). I'll definitely be checking out more of these!

Last but certainly not least is the True Match Highlighter (RRP $19.99NZD) which I have in the shade Rosy Glow, designed for cool skin tones. There's another one, Golden Glow, intended for warmer skin tones but Rosy Glow certainly works for my neutral-warm skin as well. I've used this again and again since it arrived, I'm rather infatuated! It applies beautifully, delivering a lot of sheen without emphasising skin texture in an unflattering way and it wears all day without fading. I swirl my brush through all of the shades but I love that the segments are large enough that you can easily use one at a time or mix duos, you really get a lot of control in creating your perfect shade here with this highlighter.

Phew! If anything tickles your fancy, L'Oreal products are available from selected pharmacies and department stores nationwide.

Have you tried any of these products?
