Darling Girl Pucker Paints - Brain Fart, Controversy and Mrs Dixon Swatches & Review

Darling Girl Cosmetics have been very busy lately with lots of lovely new releases, including some brand new shades of their Pucker Paint Liquid Lipsticks! Which reminded me that I hadn't yet posted this trio I purchased last year - whoops! I'm a bit of a liquid matte lippy fiend, but Darling Girl's formula has remained one of my favourites for the unique colours and comfortable wear. Have you tried these before? What's your favourite liquid matte formula?

Formula Overview:
Pucker Paints are a liquid to matte formula with a medium, mousse-like consistency. They're not as thick as NYX's Soft Matte Lip Creams or Australis Velourlips, nor as thin and watery as Lime Crime Velvetines, they rest somewhere in the middle. This is a very easy to control formula which dries down to a matte finish quickly, while still giving you enough time to outline and fill in your lips without it bunching up on itself.
Colour payoff varies between shades; the shimmery ones are sheerer to allow the sparkle to come through, while the plain mattes are typically very opaque. I didn't find these three drying but others I have tested have been lightly drying toward the end of wear.
Two of these shades are unfortunately no longer available to pigments used in them being discontinued, but Mrs Dixon is still around.

Packaging:
Pucker Paints come in a thick, 7ml tube with an angled doefoot applicator.

Brain Fart (discontinued) is described as a 'pinky mauve'. It's very pigmented and applies smoothly, wearing for a little over seven hours on me.

Controversy

Controversy (discontinued) is described as a 'purply mauve'. It has fine shimmer running through it and is a touch sheerer than Brain Fart to allow for this, though I still found it quick and easy to reach opacity. Controversy is similar to another discontinued Pucker Paint, Piece of Cake (reviewed here), but warmer and less sparkly. It wore for eight hours on me.

Mrs Dixon

Mrs Dixon is described as a 'dirty, sexy deep red with a gorgeous metallic finish'. It's an insanely beautiful red, and that blood-red hue is very apt for the inspiration source - Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead. I found the colour payoff on the sheer side and it wasn't the easiest to build up, threatening to crumble where layered, so I'd highly recommend layering it over a coordinating lip pencil to save yourself some time and effort. Mrs Dixon lasted eight hours on me and I experienced some flaking during wear.

What I liked:
  • Brain Fart and Controversy had great colour payoff
  • Brain Fart and Controversy had smooth, easy to apply formulas
  • All of them wore between seven and eight hours
  • Non-drying
What I didn't like:
  • Mrs Dixon was sheer and difficult to build to opacity
  • Mrs Dixon crumbled during wear
