ColourPop All Nighter Quad Swatches & Review

One look at my Instagram feed is enough to tell you that I have a bit of an infatuation with a warm bronze eye, the sparklier the better. So of course, I was all over the ColourPop All Nighter quad when it released late last year! 

Formula overview:

ColourPop's Super Shock Shadows have a malleable consistency like wet clay - should you press a finger into the eyeshadow you'll leave a hollow, it doesn't spring back or cling like a mousse, nor does it resist like a cream or powder. And of course, it's endlessly amusing to prod at! Because of the wetness of the formula, it is important to keep the lid tightly shut to prevent the product drying out. Even so, they have a fairly short official shelf life, with ColourPop advising that their eyeshadows will last three years unopened and a year after being opened. I've now had these for over a year and there appears to be no difference in quality than when I first got them, so it seems ColourPop are being pretty conservative.

There are eight different finishes in the SuperShock range: Ultra-Glitter, Glitter Sheer, Satin, Matte, Metallic, Ultra-Metallic, Pearlized and Pressed Pigments. All Nighter is a mixed bag of finishes: Pearlized, Satin, Metallic and Matte.  

The Metallics are pretty much what they sound like: a super sparkly base, often with the addition of the glitter, while the Pearlized shades have varying degrees of shimmer which is finer than in the Metallics or Ultra-Metallics. The Mattes are my new love; they blend incredibly well and true to the Super Shock formula, they last forever on me. I've found the Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush to be excellent for working with these, it blends them out seamlessly. Oddly, I didn't like ColourPop's own blending brush so much for the task!

Packaging:

The term 'quad' might lead you to think that these come in a palette but the Super Shock Shadow formula will dry out if not housed in their screwtop jars. What you actually get are the four eyeshadow pots in a box with a slide off cover.

Smash

Smash is described as a 'neutral satin beige with a soft golden sheen' and has a Satin finish. This is a great 'one-and-done' type of shadow, the kind you can't go wrong with. It's easy to work with and has medium-buildable colour payoff.
Smash is available separately too.

I used Small Gift on the outer half of the lid here, with Smash on the crease and lower lashline, Kennedy for the transition, Keeper on the outer V, Cheap Date on the inner half of the lid and Femme Fatale Kitten Mittens on the inner corner. The lashes are Ardell Demi Wispies.

Vega

Vega is described as a 'cool-toned taupe gold sprinkled with gold, pink and violet glitter'. It has a Metallic finish and is exclusive to the All Nighter set. This glitterbomb is what sold me on the quad! It's intensely sparkly, mesmerizingly so and I am completely in love. Vega is best patted on with your fingers to avoid fallout, the glitter adhered well when I applied it this way.

To-A-T

To-a-T is described as a 'mid-tone warm brown' in a Matte finish. I've been singing the praises of the Super Shock Mattes in recent reviews and you better believe I'm not about to stop now. They're SO easy to work with, providing a seamless blend and they've rapidly become my go to for crease and transition shades. To-a-T used to be part of the permanent range, I believe, but currently it's exclusive to this set.

Mooning

Mooning is described as a 'blackened plum with a violet sheen' in a Pearlized finish. Errrr, what? I'm pretty sure ColourPop have mixed up a description somewhere along the way because the description given when Mooning was originally released was 'rich blackened bronze with pearlized glitter'. Far more accurate, I think you'll agree. Mooning was one of my first ColourPop shadows so I have a total soft spot for it even though I must admit I haven't used it as often as I'd like. I used my now two-year-old original jar for the look below rather than crack into the double up and was pleased to find that it's still just as creamy as it was when brand new - ColourPop really are being conservative when they say their Super Shock Shadows last for a year! Mooning is easy to blend out and the glitter adheres well, although it can sheer out during blending, in which case you'll just need to pat a little more on where needed.
This shadow is available separately, too.

For this look I used Vega on the inner half of the lid, Mooning on the outer half of the lid, To-A-T on the crease and Un on the inner corner. I also used White from the LORAC Pro palette on the browbone, MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Colour Stick in Frisky Blue on the waterline and Hello Waffle Cosmetics 16th on the lower lashline. The lashes are Nouveau Lashes Volume Style 1. 

What I liked:

• Great colour payoff
• Easy to apply and blend
• No fallout
• Incredibly long-wearing, I experience no creasing or fading with this formula

What I didn't like:

• Nothing!
