Beauty By Bibby Lipsticks - Poisoned and Medusa Swatches & Review

Purchased by me

Hey lovelies,

Last week I interviewed Bibiana from Beauty By Bibby (read the interview here) and mentioned I had some of her lipsticks to show you and I am indeed back today with swatches and a review for you! I lusted after Bibby's lipsticks for quite some time before taking the plunge and ordering Poisoned and Medusa.

The lipsticks are packaged simply in black tubes with clear windows so that you can see the colour inside. There's also a name sticker on the bottom with a best before indicator. Bibiana mentioned in her interview that she'd kept the packaging fairly simple to keep costs down for the consumer, which is pretty cool - these lipsticks retail for $12.50. Still, I'd be happy to pay an extra few dollars to see her brand name on the side, particularly to gift onto others. I know the lipsticks are 'Beauty By Bibby' brand when going through my collection, but if I'm giving some to others for Christmas (which I am currently contemplating), they're not going to be able to tell the brand from the packaging to go buy more or recommend them to others.

Medusa is a vibrant teal creme. In the tube it looks quite dark so it was surprising to see a brighter hue, but I really like it. Seriously, you guys. I actually really love this! It makes my teeth appear whiter (I am very self conscious of my yellow teeth) and looks pretty badass on! It's not an everyday shade for me but it's lots of fun to wear and a great intro to these sorts of colours.
The texture of Medusa is lightly creamy - not as creamy as Lime Crime for example, but not as stiff as Jordana. It doesn't pull or tug at the lips but it will emphasise flaws a little. Medusa does not feather or migrate but it does begin to look patchy after three hours (and it worsened over time) - with a shade this show stopping, you really need to commit to regular touch ups so bear that in mind! Medusa was mostly opaque, wasn't drying and left my lips with a faint blue cast after the lipstick had worn away. The tint came away easily enough with a bit of oil a few hours later though.

Poisoned is a rich burgundy red matte with flecks of fuchsia glitter. When you first look at it in the tube it looks almost completely matte but as you start applying it, the glitter becomes visible, which was a fun surprise! The glitter makes the texture a touch gritty which I noticed more when applying, but it wasn't unpleasant to wear at all.
Poisoned reminds me of the sadly discontinued and entirely gorgeous MAC Rocker, though it's not a dupe - just a similar feel with the glitter in the matte burgundy base. Wear time was amazing, clocking in 7 hours without feathering, bleeding, migrating or fading. It was minimally drying but not uncomfortably so. I chose this lipstick to wear when Mike and I went to buy.... my engagement ring! :D

Peridot and diamond engagement ring

Gratuitous ring shot!

What I liked:
  • Great colour pay off
  • Medusa wore for 7 hours
  • Neither shades feathered, bled or migrated
  • Great price (especially for cosmetics in New Zealand, the struggle is real!) - $12.50

What I didn't like:
  • Medusa requires regular touch ups
  • Poisoned was minimally drying

Where to buy:
  • Beauty By Bibby - Bibiana regularly updates about stock being available and you are able to PM her to purchase.
