I had the pleasure of being sent a set of Maybelline's new-ish Inti-Matte Nude lipsticks to try out a while back and I've finally got them all swatched and tested to share with you! If you love a good nude lippy, these are really lovely, being pigmented and comfortable for the most part. I can honestly say that I enjoyed every shade, which is a pretty rare occurrence! The only thing I take issue with is the lack of cool tones and darker shades; the Inti-Matte Nudes are all warm-toned and best suited to light to medium complexions. In such a diverse world, it would be great to see more makeup brands reflecting that in their offerings.
Formula Overview:
The Inti-Matte Nudes feel very similar to Maybelline's Creamy Matte formula, they're very lightweight, fairly emollient and feel cushiony on the lips. This isn't your classic stiff, drying matte formula. They have a sweet, faintly candy-like fragrance which isn't overpowering to my nose, but it might be worth giving one a sniff before purchasing if you dislike fragranced cosmetics.
Purely Nude
Purely Nude is a pale warm nude. I'll admit that I was sceptical as to how well this would apply, being so pale but I was very pleasantly surprised by Purely Nude! It's not perfect; you can see some emphasis of lip texture and that it's not completely opaque in places but this isn't noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It lasted four hours on me and wasn't drying.
Peach Buff
Peach Buff is a pale fleshy peach. Like Purely Nude, it emphasizes flakes and any other roughness but not alarmingly so. It's more opaque than Purely Nude and lasted four hours when I tested it.
Beige Babe
Beige Babe is a yellow-toned nude beige. It's more forgiving than the preceding shades and is fully opaque. It lasted four hours on me without being drying.
Naked Coral
Naked Coral is a medium, muted coral. Coral in a nude collection, you know I'm in! Naked Coral has a lovely smooth formula and kept pace with the four hour average wear time I experienced with the other shades.
Almond Rose
Almond Rose is medium rose pink. It applied smoothly, with full opacity and lasted six hours on me. This is such a pretty shade, I know I'll be reaching for it again soon!
Brown Blush
Brown Blush is an interesting mixture - a warm, plummy brown that is far more flattering on my warm-neutral complexion than I would have anticipated in the tube. It was mostly opaque, showing some of my natural lip colour at the center of my lips, and lasted four and a half hours. Although the colour was an unexpected favourite, I found it clingy during wear - not horribly so, but enough that I wanted to reach for lip balm.
What I liked:
- Most shades were fully opaque
- All but Brown Blush were non-drying and comfortable on the lips
- Smooth, easy application that doesn't tug at the lips
- The wear time was fairly brief, averaging four hours
- Some shades emphasised rough texture (Purely Nude, Peach Buff)
- Brown Blush was clingy
Do any of these nudes appeal to you?
