I often find that I'm slow to review products that I really, really love because I'm constantly pulling them out of the review box to use again and that's definitely the case with Darling Girl's Spectral Shift Illuminating Cremes. I have two of the seven available shades and they are so divinely moreish - I find I'm having to force myself to pick out other things to use!
Packaging:
These come in a 5ml airless pump ($11.75USD) which dispenses just the right amount of product - a dab, really. A little goes a long way with this formula.
Formula Overview:
The Spectral Shift Illuminating Cremes, as you might have gathered from the name, take the sheer, shimmering aspect of the original powder Spectral Shifts and give them a glowier, dewier makeover in a creme formula. They can be more subtle than the original Spectral Shifts when worn sheerly or built up for a level of glow that would make Beyonce weep. I like to apply them with my fingers, although a stippling brush or damp beauty blender works just as well, and I haven't yet had any issues with them disturbing foundation or concealer when applied over top, nor any clashes with powder blush and bronzer.
I've swatched the Illuminating Cremes heavily on the left and sheered out on the right. This is so that you can see how they perform both ways. I take all of my photos with daylight bulbs for colour accuracy.
Big Mistake
Big Mistake is described as a 'pale berry pink with aqua sheen'. I'll admit I wasn't sure I could pull this off when I first looked at Big Mistake in the tube, but once I started playing with it, I was hooked! The strong aqua sheen makes for a stunning contrast to the warm cheek colours I favour and it lasts twelve hours on me. No mistakes here, I can't get enough of it.
I'm wearing Big Mistake with Freckles Soft Focus Blush in this look.
What's Your Dream?
What's Your Dream? is described as a 'sheer peachy gold with violet sheen'. The shimmer in this is subtle, giving it a very dimensional glow rather than a strong contrast. I've been favouring it when I want something a bit special but still low-key. What's Your Dream? blends out smoothly and lasts eleven hours on me.
I'm wearing What's Your Dream? with Designer Brands Brilliant Skin Rosy Glow blush in this look.
