Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm - Complex Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

I'm super late to the Revlon Matte Balm party but I'm making up for it today with a review of the nude shade from the line, Complex. I nabbed this one by chance when it was offered for sale in a bulk lot with Kat Von D Lolita (reviewed here) but I'd been lusting after the Matte Balms and swatching them each time I visited the pharmacy for a while now. NZ retail prices always put me off though - they're around $22 a pop here. Horrendous compared to overseas!

The Matte Balms come in the lipstick style du jour; a twist up chubby stick. I love that it twists up, the product wastage and mess you get sharpening these types of products can be annoying, and not having to tote around a sharpener is a bonus. These kinds of lip pencils are typically easy to apply and Complex is no exception, going on smoothly and precisely without a fuss.

Complex swatches with strong yellow leanings on my arm, but mixed with the pink of my lips it becomes a much more wearable peach. It clings to imperfections very slightly but keeping your lips exfoliated and hydrated will put paid to that. Complex's colour pay off is lovely and opaque without any streakiness and it has a strong peppermint scent that has me craving candy canes! If mint isn't your bag, I've heard of people leaving the caps off their lipsticks for a few days until the scent has faded or vanished - here's a tutorial.
Complex wore for 3 and a half hours when I wear tested it, which is about average for a nude lipstick on me. I'm really keen to try other colours from the Colorburst Matte Balm line now, particularly Shameless, the purple!

What I liked:
  • Good colour pay off
  • Minty scent (this may be a turn off for some, however!)
  • Convenient twist-up packaging (no need for sharpening!)
What I didn't like:
  • Emphasises flaws a bit
Where to buy:
  • Ebay
  • Farmers
  • Selected NZ pharmacies
  • Trade Me
