A bunch of Notoriously Morbid Mystic Mattes are on the chopping block at the moment so I thought it was high time I got this batch of Mystics up on the blog! I bought these duos quite a while ago and that packaging is no longer available, but you are able to purchase mini ($4.50USD for 3.5ml) or full size ($12USD for 7ml) tubes depending on your preference. There are five shades being discontinued on August the 1st: Idol, Gnostic, Ritual, Datura and Absolute; I'll note the availability of the others with each review.
These liquid mattes are among the easiest I've used to date, with a thin but easy to control formula and great opacity. Most are opaque in one coat, though they can be layered easily if needed and will not clump, streak or stick to themselves. There's no need to keep your lips parted while they dry, as many formulas require, because of the non-tackiness and fairly quick dry-down, yet they never fully set to a transfer resistant state. You'll still get transfer with the Mystic Mattes, although obviously less than a creamy lipstick, and they tend to wear away evenly like a regular lipstick, instead of mostly in the centre, as I often experience with liquid mattes.
Some shades are drying but most are more clingy than anything. I did not experience any feathering or bleeding with any of them, they can be smudged if touched or smeared, but will not otherwise migrate. They have a faintly sweet scent.

Deity
Deity (possibly discontinued) is described as a 'peach pink with orange shimmer'. One of the pigments in this lipstick has been discontinued so there's a possibility that it may return in a slightly tweaked version. If you do come across it in a destash though, I highly recommend giving it a whirl! It goes on smoothly and the orange shimmer gives Deity a gorgeous lit from within glow. Deity lasted eight and a half hours on me and wasn't drying.
Idol
Idol (discontinued August 1st) is a strawberry red shimmer. It's an absolutely stunning shade of red and gets the shimmer level just right, obviously metallic without being frosty or chunky. I've actually just bought a full-size tube to have as a backup, I love it that much! It lasted eight and a half hours on me and wasn't drying.
Necropolis
Necropolis (permanent) is described as 'greiged lavender'. It very obviously doesn't do my skin tone any favours, but it was fun to try! I was impressed with the strong colour pay off and seven and half hour wear time, too. As with the others, it wasn't drying.
Gnostic
Gnostic (discontinued August 1st) is described as 'bright purple'. This colour is a lot of fun, but I found it more difficult to apply evenly than other Mystic Mattes and the purple pigments caused immediate hot pink staining which further disrupted the colour pay off. From a normal viewing distance, as you can see below, it's not so obvious, but it does bug me in the close-up. Regardless, it lasted very well, clocking in at seven and half hours without being drying. Pink staining remained after the lip colour had worn away.
What I liked:
- Most shades had excellent colour pay off
- Non-drying
- Seven and a half to eight and a half hour wear time
- Most shades were easy to apply
What I didn't like:
- Gnostic was patchy and difficult to apply evenly, hot pink staining made this more obvious
