ColourPop Short and Sweet Set Swatches & Review

The ColourPop Short and Sweet set recently made its way into the Goodbyes section of the site, so I figured it was about time I got my A into G and reviewed it! This cute little offering was part of the Valentines Day collection so it's stuck around for quite a while really, considering the usual longevity of limited edition collections. Two colours from this kit have also been repromoted: Schnookums in the mini It's Complicated kit and Love Muffin as a full-size product in the Pink collection.

I think these minis are great for people who are unlikely to finish a lip product in a hurry or like to have a lot of colour options on hand. The applicator doesn't suffer for their stature, it's the same as in the full-size tubes and very easy to use. The hearts adorning these tubes add a touch of sweetness.
As for value, compared to a full-size tube ($6USD), which is 3.2g/0.11 OZ, these are 0.64g/0.02 OZ each, so you're getting a fifth of the full-size in each. At $18USD for the set (currently on sale for $14.40), that adds up to one full-size product for the cost of three, but of course, you wouldn't get the same colours or packaging.

Formula Overview:
Three of ColourPop's five liquid lip formulas are represented here: Ultra Glossy, Ultra Satin and Ultra Matte. Sugar Lips is the Ultra Glossy finish at its best: sparkly, moisturising and non-tacky. The Ultra Satin finish (Love Muffin and Schnookums) is highly pigmented with slight sheen, it doesn't set the same way the Ultra Mattes do and while it has an admirably long wear-time, the Ultra Mattes last that little bit longer. The compromise is the Ultra Mattes' tendency to cling and occasionally perform badly during application, fortunately, this wasn't the case here. They all smell slightly chemical, but it's very faint and not off-putting (to my nose).

Sugar Lips

Sugar Lips is described as 'golden pink with gold, silver, copper and hot pink glitter'. With its out of this world sparkle, Sugar Lips brings to mind the old MAC Dazzleglasses, without any of that formula's tackiness. The Ultra Glossies are a thinner formula overall, too, with less product needed for maximum impact. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more sparklers from ColourPop, they are so much fun to layer! Sugar Lips wore for four hours on me.

Love Muffin

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip - Love Muffin Swatches & Review

Love Muffin is described as a 'pastel baby pink'. Kind of amazed at how much I love this one as I expected a chalky mess, but ColourPop have come through again and delivered a beautiful warm pale peachy pink. I would have thought baby pink to be a cooler, blue-toned pink, but a Google search of the phrase now has me questioning I know in life, so let's steer back to the review...
Love Muffin isn't without its flaws, I found it more prone to streaking and grabbing at flakes than the Ultra Satins typically do but overall, the colour was worth the effort for me. It lasted six hours on me and wasn't drying.

Schnookums

Schnookums is described as a 'mid- tone warm rose'. I need to wear this again, stat, because I hate everything else about my makeup in the below picture and it's affecting my feelings for Schnookums when Schnookums didn't do anything wrong. Schnookums was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm sorry, Schnookums. Schnookums is a really weird word to write multiple times and I might be writing this under the influence of days of disrupted sleep with sick children, so I'm sorry to you, too. ANYWAY. Schnookums lasted five and a half hours on me and wasn't drying.

Pooky Bear

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip - Pooky Bear Swatches & Review

Pooky Bear is described as 'true coral'. Which it's not. It's an almost traffic-cone shade of orange and it's the best damn orange matte liquid lipstick I've tried, so I'm bummed that there's only a mini around! Because even though I mentioned how the minis are great for people who don't often finish lipsticks and I am DEFINITELY one of those people, I irrationally never want to run out of this colour. It lasted ten hours on me, including two meals, without flaking or drying out my lips because it's an orange firecracker of awesomeness. So bring it back, okay ColourPop? I know you have the power.

Honey Pie

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip - Honey Pie Swatches & Review

Honey Pie is described as a 'bright pinky red'. Okay, I thought, as I added the Short and Sweet set to my cart, it'll be another identical red but that's okay because YOU LOVE RED and the other colours are all sooooo pretty and what about FOMO?! As you can tell, ColourPop's marketing team have got me GOOD. But Honey Pie is a surprisingly unique red, the pink base really does come through to give it an appealingly cartoon-bright quality. Another one I wish they'd release in full-size! It lasted seven hours on me.

What I liked:
  • Excellent colour payoff
  • Non-drying
  • Most shades had smooth, easy application
  • Wear time was between four and ten hours
What I didn't like:
  • Love Muffin was slightly streaky and clung to dry patches
Where to buy:

What do you think of these colours?
