Notoriously Morbid September 2015 Vanishing Cabinet Swatches & Review

Here's the next in my backlog of Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinets! I found this one to be a bit of a stumper after using Gasoline. Blow Torch. No Problem. as the remaining three shades are quite cool-toned and outside the scope of what I'd normally reach for. As it turned out though, with a little experimentation, I was able to incorporate these into some looks that I really liked. 'Gasoline' was still my favourite - old horse and all that - but I'll be reaching for the others again too.

These shades were all limited edition, but recently Carrie from Notoriously Morbid has started bringing back previous Vanishing Cabinet shades for a month at a time, so you never know what might be resurrected. Or what may pop up in the Notoriously Morbid Buy/Sell/Trade group or in a blog sale. Basically, never give up on an ISO.

The amount of products included seems to vary, but there's typically three to five products in each. All swatches are applied to bare skin (on the left) and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy (on the right) using a patting motion and photographed under daylight bulbs.

The September 2015 Vanishing Cabinet theme, Say It Three Times, was based on that 80s classic, Beetlejuice! It's been so long since I've seen it which is just not okay. I will have to remedy that ASAP!

Gasoline. Blow Torch. No Problem. is a shimmery peach with gold sheen. Looking at these swatches, I can't believe I haven't used this shade again since the look below (done in 2015)! It's gorgeous and the formula is superb. I need to put this in heavy rotation!

I used Femme Fatale Xenomorph on the outer third of the lid, lightly along the outer V and then over smudged out black liner on the lower lashline here. I also used Innocent + Twisted Alchemy Movie Fun (October 2015 sub) on the centre of the lid and Notoriously Morbid Gasoline. Blow Torch. No Problem. on the inner half of the lid. Blending and highlighting shades were all from the LORAC Pro palette and the lashes are Ardell Wispies.

One. Big. Dark. Room is an interesting shade. In the jar, it's bright blue with specks of red pigment but it applies as a navy blue with a red base. Over a sticky base, the red transforms it into a darker blurple shimmer. Whichever way you apply it, it's pretty darn magical and that's coming from someone who doesn't typically like blues! I found it very easy to work with, it blended out readily. 

For this look, I've used One. Big. Dark. Room on the lower lashline over smoked out black liner, Autumn Moon highlighter on the inner corner (alone) and on the inner half of the lid over a sticky base, Ricktatorship on the outer half of the lid, 314 and Doll's Eye on the crease, Bloody Awful Poet to deepen crease, She's Got Gidget Hair for the transition and It's the White Hats on the browbone. The lashes are these ones from Ebay in the style 208.

We're Here For Your Daughter, Chuck is a super shimmery taupe with green sheen that shifts to purple at extreme angles. I didn't see this shift on my lids in person, but I suspect it's the kind of thing others would be able to see more easily on you than you could yourself, just due to different angling and lighting. As you can see in my swatch, I found it quite sheer on its own but over a sticky base, it's absolutely outstanding. I really hope this shade makes a return one day as it wound up being one of my favourites!

Here I've used We're Here For Your Daughter, Chuck all over the lid, Doll's Eye on the crease & lower lashline, She's Got Gidget Hair for the transition and Spray Paint on the inner corner. The lashes are Nouveau Lashes Volume Style 1.

This Is How You Die

This Is How You Die is a murky seafoam with red shimmer. Over a sticky base, the shimmer has the potential to dominate the base colour as you can see from the swatch, although I found that when I used it on the lid over the same base (Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy), the final effect was somewhere between the dry and layered swatches. It's a very cool and unique colour, no complaints on formula here either.

For this look, I used This Is How You Die on the outer half of the lid, Kompanion No 9 on the inner half of the lid, Neutered and Mayor Monster on the crease, He's Going Through Changes for the transition, Crybaby on the inner corner, #Basic on the lower lashline and So Goes My Nation on the browbone. The lashes are these ones from Ebay in the style A19.

Day-O! take its name from the scene featuring Harry Belafonte's Banana Boat song and - very appropriately - has a banana scent. This was my first time trying the Night Kiss Balms and I wasn't completely sold at first, in large part because of the banana scent (though I like bananas, as a fragrance it's really not something I gravitate towards) but also due to the slipperiness of the balm. Night Kiss Balms have a much lower melting point than almost any others I've tried so it was a bit of an adjustment but once I got used to that, I was totally enamoured with the formula. I used this up completely quite some time ago and have since bought many, many more flavours of the Night Kiss Balms. They're like Lip Smackers for grown ups (not that I don't still use Lip Smackers, but I suspect I'm not really their target audience anymore!).
