MAC Monday: MAC X Playboy - Bunny Pink Lipstick Swatches & Review

Happy Monday - that's an oxymoron, huh?

Mondayitis aside, I'm excited to share a bit of a MAC unicorn with you today, Bunny Pink lipstick from the 2003 MAC For Playboy collection! This was a small two piece collection, long time readers may remember I kicked off the MAC Monday series with the Playmate Pink Glitter Creme from the same release. I never expected to complete this collection, much less find either of them!

Well, if I disregard the Asia exclusives, anyway - I don't know if I have enough luck to capture those unicorns too.  The Asia release consisted of two different lipsticks, Pinkmate and Centerfold, and another Glitter Creme called Bunnysheen. The packaging for those ones is different, featuring a large single Playboy bunny instead of the smaller rows of bunnies. But enough about those lemmings, let's take a look at Bunny Pink :)

My friend Laura kindly swapped with me after she stumbled across it near new with the box. What a find! The box is a bit battered, but all in all not too shabby considering it's close to twelve years old. Instead of the regular black and white packaging, Bunny Pink has a sleeve studded with pink foil Playboy bunnies and matching pink lettering and the box interior is also metallic pink.

*Swoon* They've gone the whole nine yards with metallic pink casing, more bunnies around the tube and a bunny imprint. There's also a pretty metallic sheen on the exterior of the lipstick bullet, but that's just an overlay - more on that below.

Bunny Pink is described as a 'frost overlaid girly pink' and has a Lustre finish. The exterior of the lipstick is a silvery pink frost, while the main part of the lipstick is a soft blue based pink with fine shimmer. The exterior layer is very thin, more of an overspray than anything and wipes away with each use.
Truth be told I wasn't sure how I'd like Bunny Pink on when I was looking for swatches. Despite the lustre finish, it looked quite frosty (which is not my jam). Fortunately Bunny Pink has delicate shimmer that walks that thin line between frost and sheen and is a very wearable light pink with cool leanings, keeping it in my favour. It has smooth, even colour pay off and applies really nicely without catching on imperfections. When I tested it for wear, it lasted for five hours without being drying.

I remember when I was searching for swatches of Bunny Pink, there were a few posts on Specktra and on blogs on the hunt for dupes. Lovelorn was offered up as being a match for the base colour, without the shimmer, but when I sifted through my collection I found that Urban Decay Illicit was more similar overall. Slightly lighter, as you can see, but the sheen and base colour are the same. Hopefully this is helpful to someone!
