Foundation Quest: Estee Lauder Perfectionist Youth-Infusing Makeup - 1C1 Cool Bone Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

In 2014 I went on a quest. It's a quest that many of my fellow makeup lovers have been on and perhaps are still on - some people never finish this quest! What am I talking about? The quest for the perfect foundation, of course :)

As you can imagine, this hasn't been an easy quest. There have been compromises and failures and some victories too. I don't know if I've yet found the PERFECT foundation but today's review comes pretty close.

My perfect foundation needs to meet the following requirements:
  • Medium-full coverage
  • Doesn't clog pores (non comedogenic)
  • Lasts all day
  • Is a good match for my skin tone (obvs)
  • Doesn't oxidise
  • Doesn't emphasise skin texture - by this I mean settling into lines, making dry patches resemble the Sahara
  • Moves with my face - ever had your foundation form cracks along your expression lines? Do not want.
  • Is oil free (my skin type is combination/oily with some dehydration issues, so it's been suggested that I opt for oil free foundations.)
I haven't mentioned cost because although I'd obviously love not to pay an arm and a leg, at the end of the day if the formula is right for me I am prepared to pay a bit more.

Today's review, Estee Lauder Perfectionist Youth-Infusing Makeup, boasts a lengthy and promise filled name, but does it deliver?

Perfectionist is already bringing the fancy with an Estee Lauder monogrammed print on the inside of the box!

Perfectionist comes in a glass bottle with a pump (yep, no fussing about purchasing one separately!) and is a pretty standard 30ml. It has an SPF rating of 25, is fragrance and oil free and does not clog pores. Here are the rest of Estee Lauder's claims (from their US website):

Infuse youth with this breakthrough makeup from the Serum Experts, infused with age-defying Perfectionist serum technology.
Instantly: Brightens and perfects. Re-ignites the look of radiance. Reduces the look of lines. Nourishes with oil-free hydration.
Women love it. Instantly, 93% said skin looked transformed, 87% saw a more youthful, radiant look.
And it gets better. In just 4 weeks, 80% saw a reduction in lines and felt their skin was more hydrated.
Long-wearing shades for all women, all skintones. Now re-ignite your youth.

Phew! I have the the lightest cool toned shade, 1C1 Cool Bone, which is one of twenty one shades. The Perfectionist shade ranges shares many of the same shade names as the Double Wear line, though it should be noted that the shades may not be exactly the same. 1C1 Cool Bone in the Double Wear line is a bit too dark for me, while the Perfectionist version is a pretty much perfect match.

And with the rest of my makeup including concealer & powder (FOTD here)

Perfectionist delivers medium to near full coverage. It blends really nicely into the skin without ever appearing cakey and has a natural satin finish. I find that it lasts most of the day with a bit of fading on my chin and nose (which are my oilier areas) after seven hours or so. A little bit of shininess appears along my t-zone if it's a hot day or I'm taking photos with the studio lights.

This foundation doesn't settle into fine lines or crack over the course of the day and I didn't have any issues with it oxidising on me. Estee Lauder brought out a special sculpting foundation brush alongside the Perfectionist foundation which is intended to be used with it, but I apply it with a damp Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and I love the results I get with that. I don't get any break outs with this foundation and it's not difficult to remove.

As for the skincare benefits, I can't say I've noticed anything drastic, but then I don't wear foundation every day. Even so, I tend to chop and change between formulas a lot too, making it more difficult to tell if any changes in my skin are down to Perfectionist or not. I do think my skin looks healthier and more radiant as Estee Lauder claims when I wear this foundation. As for youthful, well, I'm only twenty five, so I'm hoping to hold that claim on my own for a little longer!

Perfectionist has definitely become one of my favourite foundations for everyday wear. Stay tuned to see the others :D

What I liked:
  • Medium to full coverage
  • Satin finish
  • Never appears cakey
  • Doesn't oxidise on me
  • Doesn't settle into lines or crack
  • Comes with a pump
What I didn't like:
  • Some fading on my oilier zones after seven hours
  • A bit of shininess appears along t-zone in warmer conditions after five or so hours
Where to buy:

Have you tried Perfectionist? What's your favourite foundation?

  1. This looks so nice on you! I only seem to hear about Double Wear, not the other Estee Lauder foundations.

  2. Don't get me wrong, I love my Double Wear but it's a bit of a spotlight hog! Perfectionist definitely deserves more attention than it gets:)
