ZA Gel Eyeliner - BR669 Deep Brown and BK999 Real Black Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

I'm back with some more fab eyeliners by ZA today. Za's Gel Eyeliners are a new formula and one of their latest releases, having launched on counters at the beginning of October. I'm a big fan of pencil gel liners so I couldn't wait to put these to the test. My fellow oily-lidded ladies can rejoice, they were a resounding success!

The Gel Eyeliners come in glossy black packaging and they're retractable, so there's no need for sharpening. The mechanism works smoothly and doesn't get stuck when fully extended, don't you hate when some products do that?

One thing that slightly irked me about the packaging is that there's no colour coding on the caps or ends of the pencils to differentiate the pencils at a glance, so if you're rummaging through your bag for the right colour you'll spend a few minutes faffing about checking labels.

I received BK999 Real Black and BR699 Deep Brown for consideration, applied heavily on the left and in a single pass on the right. Both shades have lovely colour pay off and a matte finish and can be smudged out readily. Once they've set though, they are virtually budge-proof!
ZA describe the formula as 'waterproof and smudge-proof' 'for 24 hours'. I wasn't game to test for 24 hours but I have worn each shade a few times and found they easily last 10 hours on my lids and lower lashline without smudging, creasing or fading. On my waterline, they last around 6 hours before beginning to fade. They work well to tightline too, they won't transfer onto your waterline as some pencils I have tried have done.
The texture is smooth and creamy, gliding across the lids without tugging or pulling. If you're after some good staple eyeliners, these are definitely worth checking out.

What I liked:
  • Great colour pay off
  • Well made retractable pencils, so no sharpening required
  • They last 10 hours on my lids and lower lashline without smudging, creasing or fading
  • Will last 6 hours on my waterline
What I didn't like:
  • No matching coloured caps or ends of the pencils to tell colours apart in a rush.
Where to buy:

  1. You're right - they would benefit from different colours so you can easily tell them apart if you have both. I love these eyeliners.
