Australis Velourlips - Grandmaster Pash Swatches & Review

Purchased by me

Hey lovelies,

I was delighted to stumble across a pharmacy that had full sets of limited edition Australis collections last week, despite it having no permanent Australis stand, and had my pick of Neon Crush (which launched early this year) and the latest collection, AC/ME.

The packaging of the Velourlips is super cute, with printed lace trim and a pink heart above the 'i' in 'Velourlips'. Inside you'll find a doefoot applicator which has just the right amount of softness to spread the lipstick easily. This tube also bears an AC <3 ME Metallic Edition sticker.

As you guys may know, I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the Velourlips line; when they're good, they're really good, but when they're bad I end up wanting to biff them across the room. Unable to resist sating my curiousity about these new metallic shades, I swatched each shade at the pharmacy and noted that the texture was slightly thinner and more watery than the near mousse-like usual consistency. As that thickness and tendency to resemble cake batter should you look at it funny is what turns me off some of the Velourlips range, I was pleased by the different texture and decided to take a chance on Grandmaster Pash, a brick red flecked with golden sparkles.
I imagine the the thinner consistency is to give some transparency for the sparkle to peek through, the formula was a touch sheerer than other Velourlips I've tried which I was all for. It made it so much easier to control and build the colour without having to worry about it caking up on itself if I moved too fast. Grandmaster Pash quickly dried down to a matte finish, with the sparkles giving off a frosted glass effect.
The sparkle can be felt on the lips, but it's not gritty or unpleasant. Wear time was phenomenal, lasting for over seven hours without fading. The sparkle stayed firmly in place too, which was a bit of a relief as I had visions of finding errant glitter on my chin over the course of the day! It was very slightly drying after about two hours, but that didn't worsen over time, so I was rather pleased :) Velourlips have a sweet candy-like scent.

What I liked:

  • Fantastic colour pay off
  • Wears for seven hours +
  • Sweet candy scent
  • The sparkle doesn't feel gritty and it doesn't migrate everywhere

What I didn't like:

  • Minimally drying after two hours

Where to buy:

What do you think of this metallic take on the Velourlips formula? Are you a fan?
