MAC Monday: Jet Lipstick Swatches & Review

Purchased by me/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

Today's post is a real oddball, a very old lipstick I stumbled across in one of the Walk in Wardrobe makeup groups on Facebook. According to the batchcode, Jet dates to 1999, so it must not have been too long after they'd switched from the slim tubes to the black bullets we know now. The madness of purchasing a 15 year old metallic grey lipstick out of sheer curiosity was not lost on me. Yet, posessed by madness as I was, I bought it anyway.
From what I could see on Specktra, Jet may have been a long discontinued member of the permanent line. The closest thing MAC have done that compares to Jet is Grey Friday, a limited edition sheer metallic grey.

Jet was not at all well cared for by its previous owner. There is a small melted section on the tube where they mentioned dropping a hair straightener on it or some such. The top of the lipstick has gone a little sticky - I'm unsure whether that is from age or mistreatment? - but the sides are fine. The vanilla scent has gone but it doesn't smell 'off'. In the name of blogging and getting swatches out there (I could not find a single one when I bought this!) I carefully swatched Jet and it's pretty cool! Will I wear it often? Definitely not. But the shimmer is really pretty and I think it's much more flattering than I would have anticipated. It's very slightly patchy but that isn't obvious from a distance.

Because the texture is a little funky, I haven't done a full review with a wear test, but hopefully the swatches are still helpful!

  1. This was one of my very first Mac lipsticks. I actually went back and bought an old one more for nostalgia's sake than anything else (it does smell like crayons). After Grey Friday was released, I was hoping that Mac might bring this little lovely back, along with some of the more "shocking" colours they used to have, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards. Glad to see I'm not the only fan!

    1. That's really cool, I'm glad someone else knows about and has this gem! I'd love to hear about some of the other shocking colours they had. I used to have Blueberry Fizz, probably the weirdest I've had of theirs aside from Jet.
