L'Oreal Color Appeal Trio - Golden Fidelity Swatches & Review

Hey lovelies,

I have a little gem from L'Oreal to show you today! I bought this eyeshadow trio when it was on sale for a mere dollar on Snatchadeal a while back - for $1, why not?! I've had mixed experiences with L'Oreal eyeshadows so I really wasn't sure what to expect, but I think I've stumbled onto something awesome!

The L'Oreal Color Appeal Trio eyeshadow is swamped in packaging. The case is already fairly big given the size of the eyeshadow inside and to add to the bulkiness, they've included in a clear insert to hold a curved sponge applicator. I actually do not know anybody who uses these sponge applicators to apply their makeup. Do you? Why do brands keep including them? I just don't understand.
I don't hate the packaging, but I do think it could have been streamlined significantly.

Golden Fidelity contains three shades: a pink tinged champagne, a gold and a medium brown. All three are shimmery and appear darker in the pan than they are applied. They look a bit lack luster swatched on bare skin as shown above, but don't let that fool you! Over primer, they apply and blend beautifully.
The brown shade in particular I really enjoy, because I often find darker shades look really harsh in my crease/socket line against my pale skin, but this is so easy to build up and blend out. The gold shade is the sparkliest and sheerest of the three - in the makeup look below I used it on the outer half of the lid and the sparkles didn't really translate. It had the driest texture of the three and may perform better with a sticky base. The champagne shade is similar to the brown shade in blendability and colour payoff.
All  three shades have a slightly stiff texture in the pan, as if they were baked too long. Because of this, I had to keep going back for more product, which isn't ideal and may be a dealbreaker for some. Although they're not really unique, these colours are staples for my favoured style of neutral eye makeup (softly defined so as not to compete with the liner and lipstick!) so that fact and the blendable nature of these eyeshadows still make them a winner in my book.

I think these eyeshadows may now be discontinued, but they're still floating around on discount etailers (as I mentioned, I bought mine on Snatchadeal but they've sold out of this colour now) and the usual suspects like Amazon and Ebay. If you love these kinds of colours, Golden Fidelity is worth picking up!

What I liked:
  • Buildable colour pay off
  • They apply and blend beautifully
What I didn't like:
  • The eyeshadow texture is a bit stiff, so I had to pick up more product with my brush a few times
  • The gold shade is sheerer than the others
  • Packaging is bulkier than necessary
Where to buy:
