Today I have a wee throwback to last year's Black Friday set from Notoriously Morbid. The Upside Down collection was inspired by Stranger Things, a show that I still haven't gotten around to watching - criminal, I know! The eyeshadows were all limited edition, but EL Mystic Matte was added to the permanent line by popular demand and Carrie from Notoriously Morbid brings other things back from time to time, so don't give up hope. You can also try taking a peek in the Notoriously Morbid Buy/Sell/Trade group or cross fingers for a blog sale; Indiemakeupandmore on Reddit is also a good source for indie destashes.
Swatch notes:
The shimmery eyeshadows are shown applied to bare skin (on the left) and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy (on the right) using a patting motion, while WWBD? is only shown over bare skin as matte eyeshadows and sticky bases don't work well. All of my swatches are photographed under daylight bulbs.
Formula overview:
I really enjoy Notoriously Morbid's eyeshadow formula. For this release, four of the five eyeshadows were in the semi-loose formula, which is more pigmented and intense than the regular eyeshadows and thus less likely to need a sticky base to truly shine. Because they're semi-loose, they can sometimes be on the chunky side but any chunks are smoothed out during application, they didn't present any application problems at all. All five eyeshadows were very blendable and a breeze to work with.

Right Here
Right Here is a warm metallic tan with green to pink colour shifting shimmer and silver sheen. Pure magic in a jar. This one needs a sticky base for maximum sparkle and shifty goodness.
Coffee & Contemplation
Coffee and Contemplation is a blindingly metallic rich copper with red shimmer and gold sparkles. It's INTENSE and I love it. C&C is stunningly pigmented and shimmery with or without a base and is best patted on as it is on the chunkier side.
WWBD?
WWBD? is a lovely warm tan matte shade, a little browner than He's Going Through Changes from the permanent range. It's the kind of workhorse shade that I reach for frequently and rounds out the quintet of eyeshadows nicely. The formula is great, smooth, pigmented and highly blendable, as per Notoriously Morbid's usual matte eyeshadow standards.
Should I Stay?
Should I Stay? is a smokey grape-purplles with blue-violet shimmer. The smokiness of this shade makes it really intriguing and unique, I'm dying to use it again, this time as the focus of a look. I used it without a base on the lower lashline in the picture below and was impressed at how vividly the colour shift showed up.
For this look I've used Gypsy Curse on the crease, She's Got Gidget Hair for the transitions, It's the White Hats on the browbone, Bandit King on the outer two-thirds of the lid, Pure Passion on the inner third of the lid and inner half of lower lashline and Should I Stay on the outer half of the lower lashline. The lashes are these ones from Born Pretty Store.
Friends Don't Lie
Friends Don't Lie is a deep berry red with strong purple and blue sheen. I can't even deal with how much I love this colour, it's incredible! I thought I was going to struggle to make this colour work on me but it's actually super flattering and has awakened a longing for more and more berry shades. Whoops.
For this look, I've used Friends Don't Lie all over the lid and on the outer third and inner third of the lower lashline, Bunnies Frighten Me on the inner third of the lower lashline and inner corner, Boca Del Infierno to deepen crease, Good Little Girl Routine on the crease, She's Got Gidget Hair for the transition and It's the White Hats on the browbone. The lashes are these ones from Ebay in the style 204.
EL
EL is described as a 'warm coral pink with a blue shift'. Some swatches I've seen look a lot pinker but the warmth pulls through strongly on me and I don't really see any pink at all. That doesn't worry me in the slightest though as I love this complex little number! The colour payoff is superb and the colour shift is just as visible and awesome as the pictures show. A must for duochrome lovers. EL lasted five hours on me and wasn't drying.
