Over the holiday period, ColourPop rereleased some old favourite limited edition shades from their Super Shock range and me being me, I had to get my hands on them. As usual, these don't disappoint and I can see why they've made a return - they're gorgeous! As luck would have it, they're all still available on the ColourPop site along with one of my all time faves, Birthday Girl.
ColourPop's Super Shock Shadows have a malleable consistency like wet clay - should you press a finger into the eyeshadow you'll leave a hollow, it doesn't spring back or cling like a mousse, nor does it resist like a cream or powder. And of course, it's endlessly amusing to prod at! Because of the wetness of the formula, it is important to keep the lid tightly shut to prevent the product drying out. Even so, they have a fairly short official shelf life, with ColourPop advising that their eyeshadows will last three years unopened and a year after being opened. I've now had these for over a year and there appears to be no difference in quality than when I first got them, so it seems ColourPop are being pretty conservative.
There are heaps of different finishes in the SuperShock range: Ultra-Glitter, Glitter Sheer, Satin, Satin Luxe, Matte, Metallic, Ultra-Metallic, Pearlized and Pressed Pigments; I have a mixture of Metallic, Pearlized, Ultra Metallic and Satin Luxe shades to show you today. The Metallics are pretty much what they sound like: a super sparkly base, often with the addition of the glitter while the Ultra-Metallics step it up a notch with a more frosted base colour. The Pearlized finish generally has finer shimmer while the Satin Luxe seems pretty similar to that, with a more matte base colour. All of ColourPop's eyeshadows wear like iron on me, I can always rely on them to stay all day without creasing.
I'm not sure why, but ColourPop have totally different finishes listed on the site for most of these shades compared to what's on my jars (purchased directly from ColourPop, so no question of authenticity). Perhaps they've tweaked the formula further since the rerelease or just decided certain finishes describe them better, but I'll go with what my jars say as well as the description on the website.

Valley Girl
Valley Girl is described as 'vanilla with soft gold sheen' and has a Pearlized finish (listed as a Satin on the CP site). It was originally released with the Blitzed set in the Holiday 2015 collection. Valley Girl is the kind of quintessential shade that you can't go wrong with. The ivory base is pigmented and blendable and the gold shimmer gives a flattering and noticeable, but not OTT, level of glow. That being said, it is a fairly stock standard colour these days and as such it's pretty dupable.
I used Donna on the outer third of the lid for this look, with Partridge in the centre of the lid and along the lower lashline, Sleigh on the inner third of the lid and Valley Girl on the inner corner. I also used Head Rush on the crease and Cornelious for the transition. The false eyelashes are from Born Pretty Store.
Cheap Date
Cheap Date is described as 'a true gold with silver' and has a Metallic finish (labelled as Ultra Glitter on the CP site). Along with Moonshine, Cheap Date was originally released as part of the 2015 Holiday collection, Boogie Nights. Cheap Date is what I wanted Get Lucky to be (sorry, Get Lucky!) - a true gold with a strong metallic base. The glitter is just the cherry on top! Great formula, this is a shade I'll use again and again.
I used Small Gift on the outer half of the lid here, with Smash on the crease and lower lashline, Kennedy for the transition, Keeper on the outer V, Cheap Date on the inner half of the lid and Femme Fatale Kitten Mittens on the inner corner. The lashes are Ardell Demi Wispies.
Prickly Pear
Prickly Pear is described as a 'lavender with gold and violet Ultra Glitter' and has a Metallic finish (listed as Ultra Glitter on the site). Along with Hot Tamale, it was originally part of the Mondays in Malibu set. Prickly Pear was one of the most discussed and requested discontinued shadows among ColourPop fans for ages so I was really excited to see what all the fuss was about. The base is less lavender and more taupe, while the gold and violet glitter add complexity. Given the rave reviews I've seen, I kind of expected it to do backflips and apply itself. It's lovely and I have no complaints about the formula, but it didn't knock my socks off.
I've used Prickly Pear on the outer half of the lid here, Lovely on the inner half of the lid, Seeker on the crease and lower lashline, Cornelious to blend out and Paisley on the inner corner. The lashes are these ones in the style A19.
Hot Tamale
Hot Tamale is described as a 'rich coppery brown multi-dimensional Satin'. CP are now calling it a Satin on their website but mine is labelled as a Satin Luxe, a finish I don't believe I've come across before. As far as I can tell, the base is a bit more matte than some of their other Satins while the sparkle is chunkier. It applies and blends well, plus it's copper, which makes it easy for it to win me over.
I used Hot Tamale on the outer half of the lid and lower lashline for this look, along with Puppy Love on the inner half of the lid and inner corner, Bandit on the crease and Cornelious to blend out. The lashes are Ardell Demi Wispies.
Boy Band
Boy Band is described as an 'Ultra-Metallic red copper'. Two coppers in a row and I'm not even sorry. I like Boy Band better than Hot Tamale, it has a bit more depth and sparkle - no shade, though, as mentioned, I'm a copper fiend and both are very welcome in my collection. Boyband applies like a dream, I highly recommend this one if you're a warm eyeshadow lover.
I've used Just For Fun on the inner half of the lid here, with By My Side on the outer half and inner corner, Boyband on the outer V and lower lashline, Seeker on the crease and I Spy for the transition. The lashes are these ones from Ebay in style 523. I'm also wearing Dopey Ultra Satin Lip in the pic below.
Moonshine
Moonshine is described as 'a rich chocolate brown with gold Ultra Glitter'. According to my jar, it's a Metallic, though the base is more matte than many of the other Metallics I've used. I was pleased with how easily it applied; the sparser sparkles in this one also make it quite nice for darkening up the outer third of the eye and the yellow-leaning base set it apart from my many red-based brown ColourPop eyeshadows.
