Darling Girl Blushes - Tartelette, Koalification, Blushing Heart, Mermaid's Dream, Passionate Poppy, Love's True Kiss and To Love A Beast Swatches & Review

Are you a bit of a blush fiend, or are you blush shy? I think it's safe to say that I fall firmly in the former camp but when I was first buying indie brands, the idea of loose powder blush definitely intimidated me. The mess, the possibility of picking up way too much powder on my brush, clown cheeks that would never blend out... eeek!
Curiosity obviously won out and I'm happy to say that my fears were unfounded! Well, it is still possible to make a mess (although my klutzy self hasn't yet spilt one - knock wood) and you can pick up too much on your brush, but these Darling Girl blushes are so darn blendable, I've been able to buff out some near-disasters easily.

Formula overview:
Most of these blushes are in the 'Inner Glow' formula. Here's what Darling Girl say about it:
Our Inner Glow blushes impart a soft halo of color onto your cheeks with this delicate powder that subtly reflects the light and casts a luminous glow. From soft golden sheens to a funkier green glow, don't worry these are very soft sheen that you give you that "Inner Glow"
The colour payoff is typically very pigmented but supremely blendable; I always go in with an extremely light hand (as I mentioned, it is easy to pick up too much product with a loose powder blush) and build the colour to my desired intensity. They are shimmery but in a subtle, flattering way, as described.
The Soft Focus blushes have the same blendable texture and excellent pigmentation but have a satin finish, with minimal or almost imperceptible sheen. I get eight-nine hours wear time with both formulas (tested on bare skin, I am combination-oily) and they all fade evenly on me.

Swatch notes:
Swatches are done on bare skin under daylight bulbs. On the left side the blush is swatched heavily and on the right, it is sheered out.

Packaging:
Full sizes are packaged in 10g jars with approximately 1.5 tsp of product and have a sifter ($7.75USD). Petits are packaged in 3g jars with approximately 1/4 tsp of product ($3.25USD). There are also sample baggies, which can be purchased in a sample set (4 x 1/8th tsp samples of your choosing for $5USD).

Tartelette

Tartelette is described as a 'neon coral pink with golden green sheen'. Don't let that fluorescent goodness intimidate you, Tartelette can be worn sheerly for a very natural flush or built up for more intensity. I love coral blushes and this is one I use quite often so I'm going to need a full size for sure. It lasts for nine hours on me.

Blushing Heart

Blushing Heart (discontinued) is a medium pink with slight plum tones and fine copper shimmer. Unfortunately, this one has been discontinued now thanks to suppliers no longer making the right pigments, so I'll have to conserve my wee sample baggie! Blushing Heart lasts for eight hours on me.

To Love A Beast

To Love a Beast is described as a 'light apricot with gold sheen'. This is so beautiful on warm skintones, especially when paired with bronzer for a summery look year-round! It lasts for eight hours on me.

Love's True Kiss

Love's True Kiss is described as a 'warm peachy pink with soft green to pink shift'. It's more shimmery than some of the other Inner Glow blushes but the sheen is still fine enough that it's not going to look like you tripped and fell into a vat of glitter (can you imagine, though?!). It wore for nine hours on me, although it looked somewhat faded after six.

I'm wearing Love's True Kiss with Thankstini Spectral Shift in this look. 

Passionate Poppy

Passionate Poppy (discontinued) is a bright coral with pink and gold shimmer. Darling Girl really do corals well, and though I'm sad that Passionate Poppy is no longer available, 7,7,7,7! from the Friends Central collection is pretty close (just with heavier gold shimmer - see swatches here). Passionate Poppy wore for nine hours on me. 

I've used Passionate Poppy with Squat & Cough eyeshadow as a highlighter and the Essence Shape Your Face contour palette for this look.

Koalification

Koalification is described as a 'grey blush', suitable as a contour shade for fair to medium skin tones. This is a really nice option for fair skintones, especially those with very cool leanings. Koalification's grey-lilac tone will mimic shadowing far more naturally than the warm tones that are generally on offer in standard contour palettes and the finely-milled, ultra blendable texture makes it very easy to work with. It lasts around ten hours on me. 

Here I've used Koalification as my contour, with Tartelette blush and Birdcage Theater eyeshadow as a highlighter.

Mermaid's Dream

Mermaid's Dream is described as a 'bright reddish orange coral'. This became my favourite DG blush as soon as I tried it and I quickly ordered a full-size jar! I've used it often since and love the satin finish and that it has no obvious shimmer to compete with my highlight. Speaking of highlights, my favourite combo is this with Here Come the Meat Sweats Spectral Shift, which you can see below. I just keep coming back to it, it's glowy perfection! Mermaid's Dream wears for nine hours on me.
