Happy Monday lovelies!
It's been a while since my last MAC Monday post so let's get back into it today with some dreamy marbled Mineralize Skinfinishes from the 2012 Heavenly Creatures collection. There were four Skinfinishes in this collection; the two I have are Light Year and Star Wonder and I'm missing Earthshine (tarnished bronze with gold pearl and pink reflects) and Center of the Universe (coral with gold shimmer). I'm okay with that, they both look a bit too dark for my tastes, but I'm so glad I was able to track down these two. Fun fact - this was the last MAC Mineralize collection to feature the regular lipstick formula before the debut of the Mineralize lipsticks in early 2013.
These Skinfinishes came in the then standard packaging, a black compact with a clear window and a click closure. MAC have since updated their Mineralize Skinfinish compacts to chunky, UFO shaped compacts with magnetic closures.
The purpose of Mineralize Skinfinishes can vary depending on their colour and the skintone of the user. I use most of mine as highlighters, but some shades can be blush or bronzer. They're generally too sparkly to be used as all over powders.

Light Year
Light Year is described as a 'peachy pink with gold shimmer', no arguments there! It has buildable colour pay off and works beautifully as a highlighter on my skintone (I've layered it as a highlight over MAC Ripe Peach blush in the photo below). Though it doesn't appear as prominent on my cheeks in the picture, the gold shimmer is very strong - if you're not into disco ball cheeks, Light Year isn't for you.
When it comes to application, Light Year is finely milled and applies smoothly, but does emphasise some uneven texture.
The wear time on Skinfinishes seems to vary wildly for different people, with some people experiencing very short wear times. I generally find the opposite on my combination-oily skin and Light Year clocked in twelve hours wear.

Star Wonder
Star Wonder is described as a 'plummy pink with multidimensional pearl'. Plum, berry, or somewhere in between - it's a gorgeous shade of pink regardless which gives a beautiful flushed effect. As a blush it's super sparkly, which is more visible in real life - you can just see the larger shimmer particles along the tops of my cheekbones (click to enlarge!).
The colour pay off here is a bit stronger than Light Year, with an easy to blend texture that doesn't emphasise pores or blemishes. I experienced a twelve hour wear time with Star Wonder, too!
What I liked:
- Buildable colour pay off
- Easy to apply, blends well
- Lasts twelve hours
- Star Wonder doesn't emphasise uneven skin texture
- Star Wonder is mega glittery
- Light Year emphasises uneven skin texture
What do you think of MAC's Mineralize Skinfinishes? Have you ever tried one and if so, which is your favourite?
