Hello again!
Another Lust Have It box today, this time it's the August box, which arrived mid September. As with July's box, there were several makeup items in here which immediately took my fancy so I have a few more swatches for you. There are also a few body items in this box too, so a reasonably diverse selection.
My August Women's Beauty Box contained:
- Red Carpet Kolour RRP $49.95AUD
- Reed Orange and Poppy Seed Scrub RRP $6.50AUD
- Mellow Cosmetics Baked Eyeshadow RRP $9.50AUD
- Mellow Cosmetics Mineral Auto Twist Liner RRP $8AUD
- Ulta3 Volume & Length Mascara RRP $6.95AUD
First up we have the Baked Eyeshadow from Mellow Cosmetics, a New Zealand brand I've seen a bit of on Instagram and been very curious about. I received the shade Opium, a shimmery taupe, with three other shades being on offer (Olive, Plum or Peach). The colour pay off and texture are both really nice, Opium applies smoothly and blends out easily, but I did find the colour prone to fading and creasing, even over primer.
That pop of blue on my waterline up there is the Mellow Mineral Eyeliner in the shade Navy (the other option was black). I'm really thrilled with this colour because as you may recall from my review of NV Colour's Blue Velvet felt tip eyeliner, I loved the look of navy liner but struggled with that particular formula. Navy is a pencil rather than a felt tip so they're not truly comparable, but it still helps to fill the hole in my heart left by Blue Velvet, with great opacity and application. In addition to lining my waterline, I've also smudged it out on my lower lashline and layered a blue eyeshadow over it (Innocent + Twisted Alchemy Ethereal's Tears) so it's nice and versatile.
This next one I'm not so sure about... Putting aside the eye twitch and Kardashian associations that the spelling of colour with a 'K' gives me, I received the Red Carpet Kolour Body Glow in the shade Tan and it's just laughably orange on my skintone. There are two other shade options, Light and Medium, so Light may be the way to go for similarly pale folk. I did dutifully give this a try on the back of my hand and found it dispenses a lot in one pump and was a little tricky to blend out evenly, though this may not be as noticeable on a more suitable complexion. On the plus side, it is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, along with being fragrance and paraben free.
The Ulta3 Volume & Length Mascara is definitely the surprise hit of the August box for me! I'm just getting to the end of a couple of mascaras I have on the go so I was pleased to crack this one open and try something new. Volume & Length contains small fibers within the mascara that are brushed onto your lashes to extend and thicken them, which isn't a new concept, but this is the best version I've tried - and the cheapest! I'll write up a full review for this one, but in a nutshell it does for me in 2-3 coats what takes Younique Fibre Lash two tubes, five layers, lash combing and holding your tongue the right way to do. And all without any spammy multi level marketing tactics :D
And the last item is this Reed Orange & Poppy Seed Scrub, which I haven't yet opened as I have a few scrubs on the go at the moment! One thing I do have to mention is that despite being a sealed packet, oil from the scrub had leaked through somehow and gotten on the other products in this Lust Have It box. Nothing was damaged but it wasn't particularly nice to open a bag of brand new products and find you have to clean them all, so hopefully Reed investigate more leakproof packaging in future.
X
