Notoriously Morbid May 2016 Vanishing Cabinet Swatches & Review

As I'm writing this in snatched moments between other tasks, I'll skip my usual drivel today and dive right into the next in my series of long lost Vanishing Cabinet posts! This is May 2016's lineup, which was inspired by the movie Crybaby. I remember watching it once in my teens but my memory of it is pretty hazy so I had to look up a lot of these references!

About the subscription:
The Vanishing Cabinet is a monthly subscription service from US based indie brand Notoriously Morbid. The amount of products included seems to vary, but there's typically three to four products in each and occasionally six in special VCs. It's $13.25USD within the US and $20USD for international (including shipping), so a very reasonable monthly treat! You can sign up for the wait list here or purchase a one month trial (while available) here. Overstock is occasionally posted here.

All swatches are applied to bare skin (on the left) and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy (on the right) using a patting motion and photographed under daylight bulbs.

Crybaby is an icy white loaded with aqua shimmer and sparkles. Words cannot describe how much I love this eyeshadow, suffice to say that it was difficult narrowing down a makeup look to show it off as I've used it a lot! It's equally blindingly beautiful with or without a base and blends perfectly. I love it as a cheek highlighter too; although glittier than I usually opt for on cheeks, the blue sheen is just so pretty.
If you love Crybaby as much as I do, you'll be pleased to see that it was made a permanent part of the NM collection as a pressed mini highlighter. It's been out of stock for a while but hopefully, it will be back soon!

Here I've used He's Going Through Changes for the transition, Each Buries His Own on the crease, I Will Fight on the outer half of the lid and lower lashline, Bubble Popper on the inner half of the lid and Crybaby on the inner corner. The lashes are faux mink ones from Ebay in the style A12.

Hatchetface is a cherry red with pink shimmer and silver sparkles. I anticipated staining with this shade given its vibrancy, but happily, there were no issues there. This one benefits from a sticky base, but as you can see from the sparkle in the lip look below (no adhesives used, only the dry lipstick beneath), it holds its own well, too.

Here's a lip look I did using Sanguine Addiction Mystic Matte in the center of my lips, Bloody Kisses on the outer edges and Hatchetface patted over top.

For this Christmassy look, I mixed Hatchetface with a foiling serum and used it as my eyeliner, with Shenanimonkey (discontinued) all over the lid, Scotland the Brave on the lower lashline, Bunnies Frighten Me on the inner corner, Step Out of the Shadows highlighter on the browbone and She's Got Gidget Hair for the transition. The lashes are faux mink ones from Ebay in the style A19.

High School Hellcat is a matte black loaded with blue shimmer and fine blue, teal, pink and purple sparkles. Over a sticky base or mixed with a foiling serum, it takes on a more navy appearance. I found it really easy to work with and I'm longing to incorporate it into another look soon!

Here, I've used Hallelujah all over the lid and lower lashline, He's Going Through Changes and She's Got Gidget Hair to blend out, Doll's Eye on the crease, So Goes My Nation on the browbone, Luck Dragon on the inner corner and High School Hellcat foiled for liner. The lashes are these ones from Ebay in the style LD202.

Scrape is a warm pinky-brown. It's very opaque, applies smoothly and has great lasting power (five hours) so there's little wonder that it has been a lasting favourite for me! The hint of mauve sets Scrape apart from similar shades in my collection while remaining the perfect workhorse neutral. I only wish it was permanent!

What do you think of these shades? Anything you wish would make a return?
