ColourPop Persuede Me Lippie Stix Set Swatches & Review

ColourPop introduced free international shipping on orders over $50USD until the end of the year a few months ago and it's safe to say that for me, the floodgates were opened! I love their products so much but the cost of shipping holds me back from ordering more often. It's been a lovely treat crossing things off my wishlist while it's so affordable, starting with the Persuede Me Lippie Stix set, which contains six shades in their Matte X formula. They're all available individually for $5USD each if you only like a few but if you like them all you'll save $5 by buying the set, which is $25USD.

ColourPop's sets are always beautifully packaged and they've taken it up a notch with this one by including a mirror and magnetic closure. I'm not actually sure what I'll do with this box yet as I keep my lip products in organiser trays in a drawer but it's sturdy enough that I think it would hold up well for travelling. I may try removing the foam insert to better suit it to that purpose.
The packaging for the Lippie Stix themselves is a glossy white twist up slim tube with a slanted lip bullet. I really like the smaller surface area of this lipstick style as it allows more precision than your traditional larger teardrop shaped bullet. Each lipstick has a coloured end cap which matches the colour inside as well as a label with the name and finish.

Formula overview:
The Lippie Stix formula seems to be divisive among makeup lovers but personally, on the whole, I really enjoy it. The Persuede Me set consists entirely of ColourPop's newish Matte X formula which is thicker and more flat in finish than their regular Mattes. They glide across the lips easily, even if your lips aren't in the best shape and are generally richly pigmented, although the paler shades can be slightly patchier and I found Upside Down somewhat chalky. Some shades can be drying or clingy but I don't find it a drying formula overall.
The Lippie Stix have a gorgeous chocolate chip cookie scent but it's more muted in this formula; good news for those who dislike scented cosmetics!

Upside Down

Upside Down is described as 'light nude peach'. This was the troublesome one in the set for me; although it was mostly opaque and applied fairly smoothly, it appeared chalky and clung to imperfections in a way that the Matte X formula doesn't typically do. I want to like it but I'm just not sold! It wore for five hours on me and wasn't drying, so there was that at least.

Hotline

Hotline is described as a 'mid-tone dirty peach'. This is more like it! Hotline is the perfect peachy nude for warm toned fair-medium skin tones. It reminds me a little of the discontinued Rumer Willis collab shade Pinch (reviewed here), although they're not dupes. Hotline applied smoothly and wore for five hours without being drying.

Daydream

Daydream is described as a '[warm] toned plummy brown'. Another favourite in this set for me, very on trend and flattering to warm skin tones of all shades and it has beautiful application. It lasted for five and a half hours and was clingy but not drying.

Ziggie

Ziggie is described as a 'dark terracotta'. Another love! This is quite similar to ColourPop's Ultra Matte shade Love Bug, which suffers from an atrocious formula - not so with Ziggie, which wore for five and a half hours and was clingy but not drying.

Goldie

Goldie is described as a 'rich brick burgundy'. I realise I'm sounding like a broken record here but I love this one too! It's more red than burgundy in my opinion but has enough depth to set it apart from my brighter reds. Goldie wore for five hours on me and was minimally drying.

Le Freak

Le Freak is described as a 'dark blackened red'. Ohhhhh yaaaaaas, come to me, vampy goodness! Great formula, great colour, no feathering, what more could you want? Le Freak lasted five hours on me and was slightly drying.

What I liked:
  • Great colour pay off
  • Most shades were not drying
  • Five to five and a half hour wear time
  • No feathering or migration
What I didn't like:
  • Goldie and Le Freak were slightly drying
  • Ziggie and Daydream were a bit clingy
  • Upside Down is chalky and clings to imperfections
Where to buy:
Have you tried any of the colours in this set?
