MAC Magic of the Night - Dark Side Lipstick Swatches & Review

MAC's annual holiday collection has hit counters and as usual, they've gone for a two-parter with a main colour story, Magic of the Night, and Enchanted Eve, a selection of kits, palettes and sets ideal for gifting (whether to yourself or others!). Everything is resplendent in metallic shades of purple and teal with accents of black, which has the MAC collector in me clamouring to catch 'em all!

MAC Magic of the Night - Please Me, All Fired Up, Dark Side & Evening Rendezvous Lipstick Swatches & Review

Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs: Please Me, All Fired Up, Dark Side, Evening Rendezvous

There are four lipsticks in this collection, and three of them are repromotes from the permanent range, the only new one being Evening Rendezvous. Repromoted permanent shades in special packaging have done very well in recent collections, often being among the first to sell out - it seems everybody wants to grab an old favourite or finally try a shade while it's in limited edition packaging! I admit MAC have sucked me in that way too, after coveting Sin for a few years I finally picked it up when it came out with the Rocky Horror Picture Show collection, and I replaced my regular tube of Morange with one in shiny Wash n Dry packaging. Of course, if you'd rather save a few dollars, you can pick up the permanent shades any time, without the special packaging markup.

I recently reviewed Please Me and All Fired Up when they were repromoted with the 2015 Matte Lip collection, so if you'd like to see more swatches please check that post out! I'll try and get a review of Evening Rendezvous up ASAP.

Formula overview:
There are no wallflowers here, three of the four lipsticks in Magic of the Night have a matte finish, while Dark Side is an Amplified. All are packed with pigment although Dark Side maintains a degree of translucency. MAC lipsticks have a vanilla scent.

Dark Side is described as a 'deep burgundy'. It's a medium burgundy-wine shade with mostly opaque colour pay off and a glossy finish. On me, this combination pretty much guarantees feathering and Dark Side is no exception, however it is minimal and would be put paid to with a matching or clear lip pencil.
This pretty burgundy wears for four and a half hours on me without being drying, and looks a bit faded after the first three hours. There was some staining after it had worn away.
