MAC Monday: Sugarsweet - Perfect Topping & Refined Mineralize Skinfinish Swatches & Review

Purchased by me/Contains affiliate links

Hey lovelies,

Weirdly, I've never reviewed any of MAC's Mineralize Skinfinishes before, despite being my most used highlighting products. This ends here! The two MSFs I have to show you today hail from the Sugarsweet collection in 2009 - coincidentally, also the year my love for MAC really started to take hold. Mineralize Skinfinishes are most often highlighting shades, but occasionally can function as bronzers or blushers depending on their colour and the user's skintone.

Perfect Topping

What you see here is the older packaging style, MAC have switched to a thicker, magnetic case for recent releases. It looks like a flying saucer, I'm not a fan.

Many Mineralize Skinfinishes have beautiful patterns and colours swirled through them which make them look planets. Perfect Topping is a perfect example of this!

Applied heavily/sheered out

Perfect Topping is a luminous peach which imparts a tonne of glow without overly emphasising pores or skin texture. It's one of my favourite highlighters of all time and is always in heavy rotation in my stash. It has lovely, buildable payoff and blendability and lasts for seven hours on me before showing signs of fading.
This was repromoted twice in 2014 with the collections A Fantasy of Flowers (in February) and Lightness of Being (December) but both times the colour was significantly changed from the original 2009 version (which is the one I have), according to Temptalia. If this is on your wishlist and the differing colour matters to you, you'll want to check the batch code before you buy - the final number in the three character code indicates the year it was made, so 9 for Sugarsweet, 4 for A Fantasy of Flowers or Lightness of Being, and the Lightness of Being version is in the new MSF packaging.

Applied heavily/sheered out

Refined is a shade I hadn't seen mentioned much before stumbling across it in a Specktra Clearance Bin sale. There's not a lot of swatches floating around online so I wasn't sure what to expect and definitely overdid the application the first time I used it! It's one of the more pigmented MSFs I've tried and a little on the powdery side but blends out nicely. Refined wears for ten hours on me before fading.

What I liked:
  • Both shades apply and blend beautifully
  • Refined wears for seven hours
  • Smooth, buildable colour pay off
What I didn't like:
  • Refined is a little powdery
  • Perfect Topping lasts for seven hours

Have you tried any Mineralize Skinfinishes? Do you have a favourite?
