MAC are challenging you to reinvent the rules of highlighting with a new Mineralize collection filled with shimmering products for an ultra-luminous complexion. Seriously - if sparkle and glow are your scene, you're going to be in absolute heaven perusing the offerings from Future MAC! The collection launched at MAC counters nationwide on the 11th of April and I have a selection from the range to share with you today.
The Zone
They come in a long tube which is flared like a rather subtle hourglass. The applicator is a paddle shaped sponge which has a slightly concave curve to the breadth of it, helping it to hug the lips as you apply. I find this applicator style prevents you from overapplying, as more of the product is held back than with a traditional doefoot, but this can be a bit annoying as it takes several pulls to pick up enough gloss to apply evenly.
The Zone is described as a 'dirty mauve with pearl'. The mauve is more visible in the tube; when applied it's more of a sheer warm brown and has beautiful golden-green shimmer, very easy to wear and it doesn't settle into lip lines. The Zone wore for two and a half hours on me, the shine fading fast while the shimmer lingered, and it was hydrating.

Cybernaut
MAC's Mineralize Lipstick (RRP $58NZD) formula is quite new to me but I really like what I've tried so far. They come in hourglass-esque tubes like the Mineralize Glass, only more short and squat, and the cap is magnetized: lifting the lid slightly and letting it snap back into place will keep me amused for an embarassing length of time. The tube is very wide, making it unable to fit in the dividers of my acrylic storage trays which is somewhat annoying, but not a dealbreaker.
Cybernaut is described as a 'neutral pink'. It's a pale pinky nude in the same vein as Hue from the regular permanent line, although a touch pinker and more opaque. I really love Cybernaut, the touch of extra pink makes it easier to wear than some of MAC's other pale nudes and the Mineralize formula feels lovely and hydrating on. This lasted five hours on me, settling into lip lines somewhat and more noticeably where my lips were drier.

Otherearthly
The updated Mineralize Skinfinish (RRP $64NZD) packaging always looks rather UFO-like to me. Perfectly suited then to a futuristic themed collection! As with the lipstick, the Skinfinish has a magnetic closure and comes with a clear plastic insert as additional protection for the powder. Otherearthly has a raised design with the different colour sections having slightly different heights and dips between each portion.
Otherearthly is a mixture of bronze, pink and silver sections which combine to create a beautiful oyster pink shade. The segments are large enough that you could pick up individual colours with a tapered highlighting brush, like my personal favourite, the NARS Yachiyo brush. Each colour is strong enough on its own, too; they easily double as eyeshadows, making Otherearthly an exceptionally versatile MSF. The formula is wonderful, Otherearthly is easily sheered out or built up and is smooth and flattering to skin, not powdery. The lasting power isn't to be sniffed at either, still clinging on, albeit a touch faded, after ten hours.
I've paired Otherearthly (worn as a cheek highlight) here with Notoriously Morbid Giant contour powder and Numerology blush. I'm also wearing MAC Blooming Lovely from the Give Me Liberty of London collection (2010) and Urban Decay Naked 2 on eyes, which I recently did a post about.
- Otherearthly wore for ten hours
- Otherearthly is flattering on the skin and blends out or builds opacity easily
- Cybernaut wore for five hours
- All of the products have smooth & even colour pay off
- Mineralize Glass formula is non sticky
- Both the Mineralize lipstick & Mineralize Glass formulas are hydrating
What I didn't like:
- The Mineralize Glass applicator is shaped so that you need to re-dip several times to get enough product
- Cybernaut pulls into lip lines slightly
