I'm teaming up with a bunch of lovely ladies from #NZbloggers to share my go to look using the perennially popular Urban Decay Naked 2 palette today! This is a palette I thrashed for months after finally buying it, having previously loved the MUA dupe, Undress Me Too, to a cracked and crumbling death. Then, as is often inevitable with makeup addicts, new eyeshadow palettes came along to turn my head and poor Naked 2 got relegated to the back of the drawer. So it's been nice to unearth it and rediscover my old favourite shades for this link up!
Although there are twelve shades in Naked 2, all of which are very good, I always find myself coming back to the first six: Foxy, Half Baked, Bootycall, Chopper, Tease and Snakebite. They're perfect for creating the warm bronzed eyes I'm so fond of and pack a lot of sparkle. The shimmer does unfortunately create a bit of fall out - Chopper in particular is chronic for it - but I've found the best way to minimize this and create a beautiful molten metal effect is to layer the shadows over an adhesive base like Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy.
The key to using a sticky base is laying down a regular primer and applying your matte shades first. Mattes don't play well with a sticky base and most eyeshadows are difficult to blend over it, so you want to lay down all the groundwork for your crease and any darker shading on the outer V first. Then you can simply apply a thin layer of your sticky base and after giving it a few seconds to become tacky, pat your shimmery eyeshadow over top. The base grabs onto the glitter and sparkle to intensify the effect, as if you've foiled your eyeshadow and it helps to keep it anchored all day, too.
Here I've used Tease on the crease, Foxy to blend out, Snakebite on the outer V and lower lashline, Chopper on the centre of the kid and centre of lower lashline (over Snakebite). Half Baked is on the inner third of the lid and Bootycall is on the inner corner. I then lined and lightly smudged my upper lashline with Maybelline Color Tattoo in Dramatic Black* and used Ardell Brow Pomade in Medium Brown* to carve out some power brows. On my lashes I'm wearing Collection Longer Lash Lengthening Mascara* topped off with Ardell #110 lashes*.
