Hey lovelies,
I have a bumper MAC Monday post for you today, with swatches of the entire recent Matte Lip collection. I'm a big fan of MAC's matte lipstick formula, so I was super excited by this collection but intended to be restrained and only pick up a few shades. Well. You can see how that went.
At first it was just going to be Damn Glamorous (that name!), Fashion Revival (touted as a matte version of Rebel and a potential dupe for the much coveted & discontinued Heaux) and Living Legend (because vampy). So I ordered those three and patted myself on the back for my good behaviour.
Then more swatches popped up and I found myself picking up Nouvelle Vogue and La Vie En Rouge, too. They were such 'me' colours! How could I resist?!
I already had a sample of Heroine from TheBodyNeeds and knew I loved it, so I ended up picking up a full size tube in a Facebook sales group, and that just left Pander Me and Styled in Sepia. Not very me shades, I thought, and yet... I couldn't stop mulling over swatches of them. The fact that they were so outside of the box for me had me intrigued and before I knew it, I had the whole collection.
So. Restraint: zero, me: also zero, given the state of my bank account after all of these!
Poor shopping habits aside, let's look at some swatches!
Swatched left to right in natural light: Pander Me, Styled in Sepia, Nouvelle Vogue, La Vie En Rouge, Damn Glamorous, Fashion Revival, Heroine and Living Legend
I'll talk a bit about formula now to save me repeating myself constantly below :D This entire collection is of course, matte, and as is the case with many MAC matte lipsticks, the colour pay off and lasting power is pretty fantastic. I found all of these to apply very smoothly without skipping or dragging across the lips. If you generally have a good time with MAC's matte formula, you'll love these.

Pander Me
Pander Me is a terracotta nude. It wears for six hours without drying out lips or feathering or migrating.

Styled in Sepia
Styled in Sepia is a cool brown milk chocolate kind of colour. It's so not me, but I love it anyway! This shade lasts for five hours.

Nouvelle Vogue
Nouvelle Vogue is a warm pink which lasts a whopping seven hours on me! That's seriously impressive and this is definitely in the running for my wedding lipstick.

La Vie En Rouge
I have a lot of corals. I have a lot of reds. La Vie En Rouge is the perfect marriage of two of my favourite lip colours. It is just FABULOUS. It lasts a bit over four hours without feathering or drying.

Damn Glamorous
Damn Glamorous is a bright cool toned pinky red. It's pinker and lighter than most of the blue based matte reds I own which makes it a nice change of pace (just when I thought I had every variation of red, eh?). It wears for just over five hours and my lip line looked a little fuzzy after four hours, but there wasn't outright feathering.

Fashion Revival
Fashion Revival is a deep berry hue. If you love MAC Rebel, you'll love this. Fashion Revival wears for five hours, isn't drying and leaves a slight stain.

Heroine
Heroine is a bright magenta-purple and is a repromote from the permanent collection. It wears for five hours without feathering or drying and leaves behind a strong pink stain. I've worn this a couple of times now and I really like it! It's such a fun shade.

Living Legend
Living Legend is a blackened plum. It has a little more sheen than the rest of the shades and was minimally drying after about two hours. Aside from that though, it wears for seven hours on me and I didn't notice any feathering.
At the time of writing, Nouvelle Vogue, La Vie En Rouge, Damn Glamorous and Heroine are all still available on the MAC US website. I checked in with my local MAC store in mid-December, who didn't have any of the lipsticks anymore (bar Heroine, which is permanent) but they followed up with the Britomart store in Auckland which still had many of the shades in stock at that time. If you're in New Zealand, it might be worthwhile giving them a call! One of my favourite Trade Me sellers, shezza108, still has Pander Me and Nouvelle Vogue in stock and they're relatively easy to find in Facebook sales groups :)
What I liked:
- Amazing colour pay off
- Wore for 4-7 hours
- They don't feather, bleed or migrate
- All of the shades apply smoothly without tugging or skipping
- Living Legend was minimally drying after two hours

Lani!!! The completionist in me is so jealous. I have Styled in Sepia on the way to me... just a heads up, Nordstrom is a good source of LE MAC products after the US site runs out.

ReplyDeleteI actually was just wearing Heroine last night! Love that one. Great swatches; I have Styled In Sepia and it turns into an almost murky grey toned brown on me. So bummed.
