Beauty School Dropout Eyeshadows - Tea Anyone?, First Love, GG and Blaze Swatches & Review

I think we're all suckers for a bit of a beauty bargain around here - I know I am! So if you feel the same, I think you'll be really excited to hear about the launch of Beauty School Dropout eyeshadows right here in NZ. There are currently 29 shades in the line up and they're incredibly well priced at just $8.50NZD a pop. Also good to know - they ship to Australia and New Zealand and they're cruelty free.

Swatched on bare skin under daylight bulbs

The packaging for these eyeshadows is sweet and simple; they come exclusively in pan form so you can add them to a Z palette (which Beauty School Dropout also stock) or similar freestyle palette. I had assumed at first glance that they would be 26mm pans, a common format used by MAC and many other brands, but they're actually 27mm, so they won't fit in your MAC palette. The pans are presented in plastic clamshell packaging and they're quite firmly wedged in there, very reassuring if you're concerned about them being damaged in shipping. Unusually, the name label is stuck to the back of the clamshell, not the pan, which is a little annoying, but it does peel off fairly easily so you can stick it to the underside of the pan if you prefer.

Beauty School Dropout Eyeshadow - Tea Anyone? Swatches & Review

Tea Anyone? is described as 'gold with a bit of depth to it' and has a shimmer finish. It's a light gold with a gorgeous glowy sheen to it, making it perfectly suited as a browbone or inner corner highlight on light-medium skintones. The colour pay off and texture were excellent too, blending out easily with or without a primer.

Beauty School Dropout Eyeshadow - First Love Swatches & Review

First Love is described as a 'light and bright orange with slight pink tones' and a matte finish. This is straight up neon, with a lot of the application issues that come with it. It's sheer, chalky and patchy - although it photographs beautifully - and I struggled to get it to apply evenly as it didn't want to adhere to skin, even over a primer. I'll try it with a white base next time for sure, I suspect the emollient nature of something like NYX Milk Jumbo Eye Pencil might also help it grab on more as well.

Beauty School Dropout Eyeshadow - GG Swatches & Review

GG is described as a 'copper with a brown base' and has a matte finish. It swatches lighter and more sheerly than it looks in the pan, but on the lid this works in its favour as it makes for a lovely and very blendable transition shade.

Beauty School Dropout Eyeshadow - Blaze Swatches & Review

Blaze is described as a 'warm dark copper' and it has a shimmer finish. Blaze wasn't as smooth as Tea Anyone?, the other shimmer finish I tried, and contains small, fine shimmer that is prone to fallout. It had mostly decent colour pay off both alone and over a primer and blended out nicely.

For this look I used First Love on the inner half of the lid, Blaze on the outer half of the lid and lower lashline, GG on the crease and Tea Anyone? to highlight. The false eyelashes are these ones from Born Pretty Store.

What I liked:
  • Tea Anyone? had excellent colour pay off
  • GG, Blaze and Tea Anyone? blended out easily
  • Excellent price point ($8.50NZD)
What I didn't like:
  • True Love is sheer, patchy and dry, making it difficult to get even colour pay off
  • Blaze is prone to fall out
Where to buy:

What do you think of these eyeshadows?
