Today I have the full set of mermaid-themed Spectral Shifts from Darling Girl's O-Fish-Ally Cute collection to show you! What are Spectral Shifts, you might ask? Well, anything you want, really. They're semi-sheer powders suitable for eyes, face or lips and are generally very glowy, sometimes with a bit of sparkle or colour-shift going on. I most often use my Spectral Shifts as a cheek or inner corner highlight so that's what you'll see demonstrated in this review.
The formulas are very consistent: highly blendable and pigmented enough to hold their own. Over a sticky base or glitter glue, they are transformed into show-stealing colour-shifting, sparkle-laden beauties. I love their versatility.
As Susan from Darling Girl was generous enough to send these to me for review, the clamshells shown are promotional sample packaging. Usually, Spectral Shifts usually come in the following formats:
- Full-size jar - 2.4g/.08OZ for $9USD
- Petite jar - 1/4 teaspoon for $3.50USD

Mer-Lady
Mer-Lady is described as 'candy pink with silver aqua sheen and silver and pink to gold iridescence'. This is my favourite of this quartet, it's just so darn cute! Plus, it looks like the love child of Here Come The Meat Sweats Spectral Shift and Bubbles eyeshadow, which can only be a good thing.
For this look, I used:
Mer-Lady Spectral Shift on inner third of lid, The Licked Hand on outer two thirds of lid, Love Arrow on crease, Chupacabra and #breaktheinternet to blend out, We're Not Sheep on browbone, The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs on lower lashline, Cat-Zilla Feliner on waterline.
On my cheeks, I've used Girl Baba Yaga Inner Glow blush and Mer-lady Spectral Shift as highlighter.
Off the Scale
Off the Scale is described as a 'dusty rose gold with red/gold tones and gold iridescence'. I don't know why I haven't used it as an eyeshadow yet, look at how spectacularly metallic it becomes over a sticky base! Must remedy this ASAP.
On my cheeks, I've used Little Peoples Village Spectral Shift as blush and Off the Scale Spectral Shift as highlighter.
Talk to the Fin
Talk to the Fin is described as 'pale olive with silvery purple sheen and a splash of rainbow sparkles.' This is such a cool and unusual shade. The olive description threw me at first but as you study it, you can see the underlying olive in there, it's not a straight silver as the shimmer suggests.
For this look, I've used OMG It's Rick Grimes on the inner half of the lid, Ladyhawke on the outer half of the lid and over Indecent Proposal on the lower lashline, Talk To The Fin Spectral Shift on the inner corner, Indecent Proposal on the crease, Ugly Naked Guy for the transition, Freckles Soft Focus Blush for the transition to blend out, We're Not Sheep on the browbone. The lashes are Nouveau Lashes Volume Style 1.
On my cheeks, I've used Freckles Soft Focus blush and Talk To The Fin Spectral Shift as my highlight.
O-Fish-Ally Awesome
O-Fish-Ally Awesome is described as a 'light cool lavender with pink undertones gold iridescence and aqua to purple shifting iridescence'. It's a perfectly ethereal shade with fine sparkles that kick the glow up a notch. I really enjoy how the purple shift comes out to play more as you buff the colour in.
For this look I used Ginger Boy on the inner third of the lid, Persuasion Diamond Dust on the center of the lid and inner half of the lower lashline, We're All Mad Here on the outer third of the lid and lower lashline, O-Fish-Ally Awesome on the inner corner, Between the Sheets on the crease, #breaktheinternet to blend out and We're Not Sheep on the browbone. The lashes are these faux mink ones from Ebay in the style A02.
On my cheeks I've used Ginger Boy eyeshadow as blush and O-Fish-Ally Awesome Spectral Shift as my highlight.
Are you loving this mini collection? Which is your favourite?
