With temperatures dropping here, I find myself gravitating more and more to smokey hues and matte textures, which puts ColourPop's Ultra Matte Lips right at the top of my favourite things at the moment. I picked these four shades up a while ago and although the colours are not all what I expected, I'm still digging the shade range and especially loving the long wear time. They're perfect for busy days when I don't have time to keep checking the state of my lipstick, all too numerous of late!
Ultra Mattes come boxed (with names on the boxes, perfect for my preferred storage!) and have clear packaging with silver caps and trim. The applicator is a slim angled doefoot which I find easy to work with for outlining lips and distributing the product evenly.
All of ColourPop's liquid lipsticks are richly pigmented and have a slightly chemical scent although it's not strong or offensive.
The Ultra Matte range dries down to a flat matte finish quickly and tends to be more hit or miss than their other formulas. When it's good, it's really bloody good and when it's bad, it's a flakey, shrivelled, drying mess. Fortunately, these four are all really good formula-wise; they don't flake, streak or cake up during application and last six hours or more.

Monday
Monday is described as a 'warm peachy beige'. It's a gorgeous brown based nude, with just enough peach in it to keep me happy. The application was a breeze, applying smoothly and evenly in a single layer and it wears for a bit over eight hours on me without being drying.
Wednesday
Wednesday is described as a 'vibrant hot pink'. It reminds me strongly of Lime Crime Pink Velvet, I really must compare them side by side ASAP. It's a really fun colour with a great formula, my son picked it as his favourite of the four straight away! Gotta love a wee nod to Mean Girls, too. Wednesday lasts for six hours on me and isn't drying.
Thursday
Thursday is described as a 'brilliant red violet'. It falls somewhere between violet and magenta, in my opinion, and is rather unique in my collection (not often I get to say that!). I needed two layers for full opacity but it was easy to layer and posed no clumping issues. Thursday wears for six hours on me and isn't drying.
Viper
Viper is described as a 'true dusty rose' but it definitely pulls more mauvey-purple on me. I do like the colour and I've not got anything like it but it wasn't what I was expecting from the description or website swatches. We got on okay though, with Viper being mostly opaque in a single layer. It wore for a bit over six hours on me and wasn't drying.
What I liked:
- Strong colour payoff
- Smooth application
- Wear time was between six and eight hours
- Non-drying
- Nothing!
