I was going to try and resist the ColourPop Hello Kitty collection but then... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ColourPop, man. They get me every time. And boy, did they get me this time - I've wound up gradually picking up most of the collection over the past few months (I skipped the invidivudal glosses and makeup bag) so I'd better start sharing some swatches before they pull another Last Call on us! I've heard that this collab will be around until February, so fingers crossed that holds.
The Lippie Stix have a slanted lip bullet, which I really like as the smaller surface area of the lipstick allows more precision than your traditional larger teardrop shaped bullet. Each lipstick has a coloured end cap which matches the colour inside as well as a label with the name and finish.
The Matte X formula feels thicker and is flatter in finish than the regular Mattes. They glide across the lips easily, even if your lips aren't in the best shape and are generally richly pigmented, although the paler shades can be slightly patchier.
Formula Overview:
The Lippie Stix formula seems to be divisive among makeup lovers but personally, on the whole, I really enjoy it. The shades in this collection are a mixture of Creme, Satin Luxe and Matte X finishes, so let's break down how they differ:The Matte X formula feels thicker and is flatter in finish than the regular Mattes. They glide across the lips easily, even if your lips aren't in the best shape and are generally richly pigmented, although the paler shades can be slightly patchier.
The Satin Luxe finish is glitter-filled, opaque and satin in finish. The glitter can be felt on the lips but it doesn't feel gritty or unpleasant to me.
The Creams are glossier and have more slip, though they're not as glossy as the Hyper Glossy or Glossy formulas.
In all finishes, some shades can be drying or clingy but I don't find it a drying formula overall.
The Lippie Stix have a gorgeous chocolate chip cookie scent but it's more muted in the Matte X formula; good news for those who dislike scented cosmetics!

Konnichiwa
Konnichiwa is described as 'a bright dusty rose' and has a Creme finish. Can something be both bright and dusty at the same time? You and your crazy colour descriptions, ColourPop. Konnichiwa is a soft rose-pink with subtle cool tones and I LOVE IT. I was on the fence about getting it as it just didn't grab me when I saw Temptalia's swatch of it (it looks much pinker and more cool-toned on her than it does on me) but curiosity got the better of me and I'm so glad. It's the kind of muted pink that goes with a bunch of different makeup looks and the Creme finish is both flattering and forgiving. Konnichiwa lasts four hours on me and stains bright pink.
Date Mate
Date Mate is described as 'a vibrant cool-toned fuchsia' with a Matte X finish. Whoa, mama, this is a gorgeous pink! True to the Matte X formula, it glides on easily and has excellent colour payoff. It wore for six and a half hours on me, with some wear to the centre of my lips towards the end of wear and some clinginess noted.
Let's Play
Let's Play is described as a 'brilliant cranberry lightly dusted with hot pink pearls' and has a Satin Luxe finish. It's very similar to Surprise Ultra Metallic Lip from the same collection but slightly less metallic. It has glitter throughout it but I didn't find it gritty or unpleasant on the lips. I wore this again for Christmas Day and it held up SO well throughout ridiculous amounts of food - after a little under nine hours it was mostly stain and glitter. The glitter didn't migrate during wear, it didn't feather and it wasn't drying. This is a total winner in my book!
- Great colour payoff
- Wear time was between four and nine hours
- Smooth, easy application
- No feathering or migration
- Non-drying
- Date Mate felt a little clingy
