I must admit, since becoming a stay at home mum, I've grown increasingly scrooge-like in my ways. It's the nature of the beast, money is tight, so you get so used to bargain rack hunting that forking out full price for something seems inconceivable. Especially when that something is a high end lipstick! But you've got to indulge sometimes and I did just that with this Tom Ford lipstick some time ago, largely because it shares the same name as my youngest son: Patrick!
Patrick comes from the Lips & Boys collection, a massive forty-six shade arsenal with each lipstick named after an influential man in Tom Ford's life. As my own name is pretty uncommon, I was always envious of people who could buy personalised key rings and wall plaques and so forth at gift stores growing up and it's made me a little OTT about buying things with my kids' names on them. Of course, almost all of Noel's personalised stuff is repurposed Christmas decorations, but he doesn't seem to mind 😂
Each shade in the collection is $36USD - OUCH. While they are smaller than your average lipstick at 2.0g, they're not so small that I don't feel I'll get much use from them and I find that the petite bullet makes it a little easier to control than a standard size lipstick. Although the price points obviously don't compare, ColourPop Lippie Stix are 1.0g while MAC lipsticks are 3.0g, to give you an idea of the amount of product you're getting.
The packaging certainly rises to the occasion: outfitted in glossy black and luxe gold trim, the Tom Ford logo is etched into the lipstick cap and bullet. My tube has already had a bit of love, so it's hard to see on the bullet, sorry about that!
Patrick is a medium coral créme with a touch of pink and has rich, even colour payoff. It's very emollient, leading to it gathering in the corners of my mouth and wearing away somewhat in the center of my lips, but the tradeoff is a comfortable, hydrating feeling throughout the five hours wear I got. That being said, I'd gladly suffer a little dryness and a less creamy formula over feeling like the colour is shifting around on my lips - it gives me the urge to compulsively check my teeth for lipstick! Patrick is a beautiful colour but I'm not blown away by the formula and at $36USD (currently $48.18NZD), I really want to be.
What I liked:
- Great colour payoff
- Lasts five hours
- Comfortable and hydrating
What I didn't like:
- Gathers in corners of mouth
- Overly emollient, feels like the colour is shifting around during wear
Where to buy:
- Tom Ford (US shipping only)
- Amazon
- Ebay
- Smith & Caugheys (NZ, limited range)
Have you tried any Tom Ford lipsticks before?
