Darling Girl Eyeshadows - Baby Groot, Move It On Over, Eclipse, Brocade, Prom Queen Swatches & Review

Time for the next batch of Darling Girl eyeshadows! Today's selections are mostly neutral and include two of my favourite COTMs to ever be released, along with one of my favourite makeup looks I've done in a long time (to toot my own horn!).

Some of the shades reviewed below are permanent, while others are discontinued or past COTM (colour of the month) shades, so I'll note their availability with each review. Last year Susan did a Pink Friday sale where she brought back selected COTM and GWP shades for a limited time and I really hope she does the same this year.

Darling Girl's eyeshadows come in a few different sizing options: full sizes are packaged in 5g jars with approximately 3/4 tsp of product ($6USD). Petits are packaged in 3g jars with approximately 1/4 tsp of product ($2.50USD). You can also try a sample set, which includes 4 shades of your choosing in baggies, each containing 1/8th tsp for $5USD. I've gone down that route many times as you can get samples of any eyeshadows, Diamond Dusts, Spectral Shifts or loose blushes, excellent if you want a great cross section of colours and formulas to try!

Formula overview:
Darling Girl's eyeshadow formula is incredibly consistent. I've never come across a dud in the range (and like I said, I've accumulated an embarrassing amount); they are, on the whole, very pigmented and easy to work with. Some shades, especially the more glittery ones perform best over a sticky base but can certainly be used on their own.

Swatch notes:
All eyeshadow swatches in this post are done two ways: applied on bare skin on the left hand side and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, a sticky eyeshadow base which maximises colour intensity and sparkle, on the right. This is so you can see how they perform both ways. I take all of my photos with daylight bulbs for colour accuracy.

Baby Groot (Feb 2015 COTM) is described as a 'medium reddish brown with green sheen and golden green iridescence'. It's one of my favourite Darling Girl eyeshadows ever, although it must be said that I'm always partial to warm brown with a green duochrome! The formula of Baby Groot is excellent, a total breeze to work with.
It was rereleased in the Pink Friday sale last year so I'm not sure if that discounts it for future Pink Friday sales, but MAC Green Brown, Femme Fatale Witchwood and Impulse Cosmetics The Huntsman are all similar shades.

For this look I used Donger Need Food on the inner half of the lid, Baby Groot on the outer half of the lid, Dream Within A Dream on the inner corner, Occupation... Dinosaurs on the lower lashline and #breaktheinternet on the crease. The lashes are these ones from Born Pretty Store.

Prom Queen (permanent) is described as a 'reddish brown with bronze iridescence with shifting pink holo-sparkle'. It comes from the Queens of Horror collection and features Carrie from the classic horror film on the label art. Prom Queen holds its own nicely, but for maximum sparkle I'd definitely go with a sticky base. It's just so magical applied that way!

I've used Prom Queen on the outer half of the lid here, with Honey Pot on the inner half of the lid and Princess Conseula Bananahammock just above the inner corner. April Showers Spectral Shift was used on the inner corner, Kilt-y Pleasures and Between the Sheets on the crease, #breaktheinternet for the transition, Ginger to blend out and Could I Be Wearing Anymore Clothes? on the lower lashline. The lashes are from QVS.

Move It On Over (November 2015 COTM) is a golden brown absolutely loaded with sparkle and dimension. I will be forever wishing this was a permanent shade, it's just so unbelievably gorgeous, and the formula is wonderful too.

I've used Move It On Over on the outer half of the lid and on the lower lashline, with Smell the Fart Acting on the inner half of the lid, Jet Aplee Blooo Spectral Shift just above the inner corner, Crave on the inner corner, Kilt-y Pleasures on the crease and #breaktheinternet for the transition. The lashes are these ones from Born Pretty Store (use code LR10K31 for 10% off).

Eclipse

Eclipse (discontinued) is a dusty dark purple base with crimson shimmer that is most vibrant over a sticky base. I really didn't do it justice in the makeup look below (not sure what I was thinking with that colour combo tbh) so I'll definitely have to try it out again soon!

I've used Eclipse on the lower lashline for this look, Naughty Olive Wonder Wand on the lid and ColourPop Rebel to blend out. The lashes are these ones from Born Pretty Store.

Brocade (permanent) has a 'violet base with strong metallic gold overlay'. It changes so much when applied over a sticky base, yet the purple still comes through. It's just gorgeous. I think this was one of Darling Girl's best sellers for a long while and is definitely one every Darling Girl fan should have in their collection.

I used Brocade on the inner third of the lid and Femme Fatale Pretty Trinkets on the outer two thirds of the lid, with Too Faced Chocolate Bar for the rest. The lashes are Ardell Wispies.
