Darling Girl Eyeshadows - Coco Loco, Marzipan Nipples, Lasso of Truth, Bob-B-Q and Fira Swatches & Review

I've got a lovely mix of Darling Girl neutral eyeshadows to show you today. Neutrals with a twist, I should say, as all of these have contrasting shimmer or a duochrome finish that sets them apart from your average neutrals.

Some of the shades reviewed below are permanent, while others are discontinued or past COTM (colour of the month) shades, so I'll note their availability with each review. Last year Susan did a Pink Friday sale where she brought back selected COTM and GWP shades for a limited time and I really hope she does the same this year.

Darling Girl's eyeshadows come in a few different sizing options: full sizes are packaged in 5g jars with approximately 3/4 tsp of product ($6USD). Petits are packaged in 3g jars with approximately 1/4 tsp of product ($2.50USD). You can also try a sample set, which includes 5 shades of your choosing in baggies, each containing 1/8th tsp for $4USD. I've gone down that route many times as you can get samples of any eyeshadows, Diamond Dusts, Spectral Shifts or loose blushes, excellent if you want a great cross section of colours and formulas to try!

Formula overview:
Darling Girl's eyeshadow formula is incredibly consistent. I've never come across a dud in the range (and I've accumulated an embarrassing amount); they are, on the whole, very pigmented and easy to work with. Some shades, especially the more glittery ones perform best over a sticky base but can certainly be used on their own.
Swatch notes:
All eyeshadow swatches in this post are done two ways: applied on bare skin on the left hand side and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, a sticky eyeshadow base which maximises colour intensity and sparkle, on the right. This is so you can see how they perform both ways. I take all of my photos with daylight bulbs for colour accuracy.

 Fira

Fira (discontinued) is a rich russet brown with strong pink sheen that lends it a coppery cast. At extreme angles the pink changes to green, the shift being more visible over a sticky base. I wish this one was still around, it makes a great "one and done" shadow and blends beautifully. 

Lasso of Truth

Lasso of Truth (past GWP) is a warm caramel brown with subtle subtle blue and red sparks. It's true to the usual velvety smooth formula, it works well by itself and is stunning over a sticky base.

Bob-B-Q

Bob-B-Q (past COTM) is an orangey brown with pink and copper sparkles. It becomes much darker over a sticky base so I think you could do a lot with this eyeshadow in one makeup look just by using or omitting different types of bases! I found it slightly difficult to blend over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, likely because it has a semi matte base to it, which typically don't play nicely with Pixie Epoxy.

This eyeshadow is inspired by The Walking Dead, which I haven't yet seen and am not sure I'm brave enough to try! Are you a Walking Dead fan?

Here I've used This is Lemonade? (Snow in Love collection) as an inner corner highlight with Lasso of Truth on the inner half of the lid and Bob-B-Q and Fira on the outer half and centre of the lid respectively. I smudged black liner along my lower lashline and patted Avon Calling (also Snow in Love collection) over that. I also used Slave For Sensation from the Matte I'd Like To Find collection as a transition shade. The lashes are Ardell Demi Wispies.

Marzipan Nipples

Marzipan Nipples (permanent) is described as an 'almost matte pinky-tan' with 'peachy sheen'. There's some pinky-violet shimmer going on here too, at least to my eye. It performs equally well alone or with a base, darkening up considerably with Pixie Epoxy. Marzipan Nipples takes its name from Orange is the New Black, which again, I haven't seen - I feel like I'm living under a rock over here, guys!

I've used Marzipan Nipples on the inner corner for this look, with a couple of other Darling Girl shades: Cake Pops on the lid and lower lashline and #breaktheinternet to blend out. 

I'm also wearing a little too much of another Darling Girl product in this look - it's Blushing Heart Inner Glow Blush, which I'll be reviewing soon.

Coco Loco

Coco Loco (permanent) is described as lightest tan with lavender iridescence'. This isn't currently listed on the new site but Susan says it isn't discontinued, so hopefully it should be available on the new site soon. Coco Loco is beautiful and was one of my first 'neutral with a twist' eyeshadows from Darling Girl, it truly opened the floodgates! The shimmer shows up more strongly over a sticky base, as you can see, but is still quite visible when applied alone, and it blends out easily.

I've used Coco Loco all over the lid and lower lashline here with #breaktheinternet on the crease and Forget Me Nots Spectral Shift on the inner corner. I used the LORAC Pro palette for extra depth too. The lashes are Ardell Curvy #411s.
