Younique Moodstruck Minerals Pigment Powder - Regal, Sexy and Empowered Swatches & Review

I'm back with another Younique review today. Younique remains a divisive brand due to the spammy selling tactics of some reps - the rep I have worked with to bring you this review is lovely and not like that, but I know I and many makeup lovers have come across far too many of the other kind :s

If you can look past that though, their Pigment Powders are actually really nice. They're similar to many indie shadows in that some of them need a sticky base to really show their true potential, then they really glow. Keep reading to see what I mean!

The eyeshadow samples I received come in little foil packets. I have to be honest, this might be the worst ever packaging idea for eyeshadow samples. The amount in the sample is pretty generous, so you're not going to use it all in one go unless you're applying eyeshadow to your whole body... but there's no way of resealing the packets and product flies out of them no matter how carefully you cut them open. I've decanted these into some little jars I had lying around which makes them infinitely easier to work with. Of course should you purchase one of the Pigment Powders you'll receive it in a jar with a sifter, but I thought the sample packaging was worth mentioning since that is what I have received and have experience with. I think it's great that Younique does samples, but I think going the baggie route would be so much more practical for consumers!

Regal

Regal is a vibrant jewel-toned purple which is semi sheer but even when applied alone, and absolutely gorgeous over Epoxy. Younique says you can use the Pigment Powders wet as well, if you like using your shadows wet. It was easy to apply and blend out, I really enjoyed pairing it with Sexy for the look below (I used Ribbonesque from the Lime Crime Palette D'Antoinette palette as a transition between the two colours). The shimmer in Regal really glows.

Sexy

Swatched alone (left) and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy (right), photographed under daylight bulbs. Sexy is an uber sparkly beige. It's lovely all over the lid or as a highlight - in the look below I've layered it over Pixie Epoxy on the inner third of the lid and then dry as an inner corner highlight. It's a little sheerer dry, which makes it a bit more subtle. Over the Epoxy it's a lot more intense and the sparkle becomes somewhat chunky in appearance, like it's bunched up on itself, though it doesn't feel that way.

Empowered

Swatched alone (left) and over Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy (right), photographed under daylight bulbs. Empowered is a pale celery green, again shimmery, but a smoother shimmer, like Regal. For the look below I patted Empowered over Pixie Epoxy on the center of my lid and blended out into a pale gold. It was really easy to work with and blend, even over Pixie Epoxy (which is notorious for making blending difficult). I love how reflective the shimmer is!
